  3. Why Use PowerPoint? • Capture your presentation—major concepts, organization, charts, graphs and more all in one place! • Share your presentation with others on the Web or in easy PowerPoint handouts.

  4. Content vs. design • Write your presentation in outline view. • Play with graphics, colors and fonts in slide view.

  5. Font and color • Two or three fonts are plenty. • Pick three or four colors that look nice together. • Use high contrast colors for background and text. • Don’t forget about red/green color-blindness.

  6. ClipArt déjà vu • Be a ClipArt minimalist. • Your audience has seen them all. • Be creative; make your own!

  7. Practice makes perfect! • Practice where you preach so you can fix problems before you present. • Rehearse your timings. • Show it to a friend before you make your debut.

  8. Try It Yourself • Download the PowerPoint Overview packet at http://www.lib.umd.edu/groups/learning/handouts/powerpoint101.pdf and follow the directions to create your own PowerPoint presentation.
