Additional Professional Duties

2. The “Instructional Day” • 5 hours - excluding breaks / lunch • APA’s occur during ‘instructional day’ • All APA’s must be equitably time-tabled, everyone gets close to same total minutes • Duties outside of instructional day can only be assigned with teacher consent

Additional Professional Assignments (APA’s) • Include supervisions, student or teacher mentoring • Records must be kept by Administration • You are strongly advised to keep track! • You can double up – you decide if you are asked! • maximum on-calls - 24 half periods (37.5 min) • Total APA’s - 56 half periods (max) including on-calls • Principal... ‘will endeavour to assign no more than 2 on-calls per week’... doesn’t mean you cannot get more • Department Heads must complete equitable share of on-calls

5. Maximum Assigned Time • Maximum 240 minutes per day • Pro rated for part time teachers • When APA is added, the maximum time on those days is 277.5 minutes • Continuous assigned time cannot exceed 180 mins (excludes travel time and breaks) • With mutual consent, assigned continuous time can extend to 225 minutes

6. Review • Keep a record of all APA’s – do the math! • Everybody does their ‘fair share’ • Check to make sure you are not given more time than contract allows • Do not do duties outside of the instructional day unless you fully consent • Talk with your Branch Representative if you feel you are being asked to do more than others. They will know what to do, and who to speak with.
