What Is the CIBSE? • Institution of Heating & Ventilating Engineers founded in 1897 • Royal Charter granted in 1976 on amalgamation with Illuminating Engineering Society so forming the CIBS • Engineers added to the title in 1985 so forming the CIBSE • We are dedicated to the development of better buildings through education, research, communication & influence. • To promote art, science & practice of building services engineering for the public good & the advancement of professional development & research in building services engineering. Republic of Ireland

Fellow & Member Grades • Fellow Grade FCIBSE (CEng?)This grade is for those qualified to honours degree level or equivalent, engaged in technical and commercial leadership in building services engineering (i.e. same as for MCIBSE) plus eminence in the profession and at least 10 years’ experience in a position of superior responsibility. • Member Grade MCIBSE (CEng?) This grade is for those qualified to honours degree level or equivalent, engaged in technical and commercial leadership in building services engineering. Meet competence criteria Republic of Ireland

  10. Associate & Licentiate Grades • Associate GradeACIBSE(IEng?) This grade is for those qualified to foundation degree level or equivalent, engaged in technical and/or commercial management in building services engineering. Meet competence criteria • Licentiate GradeLCIBSE (EngTech?) This grade is for those qualified at NVQ level 3 or equivalent, contributing to design, development, maintenance, commissioning, operation or manufacture in building services engineering. Graduate & Student Affiliate Grades • Graduate Grade This grade is for those with a degree or degree equivalent working towards MCIBSE or ACIBSE.to have successfully completed an accredited BEng honours degree or equivalent to those who began their studies from September 1999 onwards need accredited four year MEng degree or BEng Honours plus a further year of study • Student Affiliate GradeThis grade is for those registered on a course of study leading to Member, Associate or Licentiate grades of membership. Companion & Affiliate Grades • Companion GradeThis grade is for experienced practitioners in a separate discipline, who have made a contribution to the promotion of building services engineering and hold a senior position. • Affiliate Grade This grade is for those who have an interest in the promotion of building services engineering. Competencies- for Engineering Practice Report These set out the skills and knowledge of building services engineering. – 16 Objectives under 5 headings • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems • Provide technical and commercial leadership • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills • Demonstrate a personal commitment to professional standards, recognising one’s obligations to society, the profession and the environment Republic of Ireland

Candidate Application… Competences Based upon Engineering Council requirements - • Candidates will be expected to be fully competent in at least 60% 70% of these 16 objectives and have a knowledge and understanding of them all • Review their career and experience to date compile your report • Submit their Engineering Practice Report - 4,000 words • - Along with Organisational Chart • Development Action Plan outlining short, medium and long term goals Republic of Ireland
