Equipment: * Blood Glucose meter. * Blood Glucose reagent strip compatible with the meter. * Paper towel. * Warm cloth or other warming device (optional). * Antiseptic swab. * Disposable Gloves. * Sterile lancet or 19- or 21- gauge needle. * Lancet injector (optional). *Cotton ball to wipe the glucose reagent strip (dry wipe method).

  3. Glucose Measuring Devices • Used to Check Blood Sugar Levels • Many different types and models

  4. Procedures • Careful attention to BSI & safety • Select Finger • Massage blood into distal end • Clean finger with alcohol & allow to dry • Use lancet or Auto-lancet device • Wipe first drop of blood off • Apply drop of blood onto test strip and follow individual glucometer instructions • Dispose of sharps and soiled supplies
