  2. OBJECTIVES • List two principles of presenting a good web page. • View and analyze web sites that utilize these principles of web page presentation design.

  3. WEB SITE DESIGN GOALS • When creating any web page or web site, one of your goals as a webmaster is to have your visitors feel comfortable and at ease when they browse through your site. • Two principles of web design that can achieve this goal are consistencyand repetition.

  4. CONSISTENCY • Consistencyis a rule that persuades web designers to use similar design elementsthroughout a web site. • Having consistencyon a web site allows users to recognizesimilar elements in similar locations throughout the site.

  5. CONSISTENCY • You can create a consistent web site by including some of the following techniques: • Using the same color scheme • Using the same page layout • Using the same visual cues(banners, logos, link buttons, etc.) • Using similar fonts (with variety as well) • Using the same alignment for block text

  6. REPETITION • One can achieve consistency in a web site by using repetition. • Repetitionis a rule that persuades web designers to duplicate design elements on all (or most) of a site’s pages. • Using repetition makes a web site more user-friendly.

  7. REPETITION • You can create a web site with repetition by including some of the following techniques: • Using the same navigation linksin the same orderon each web page. • Add text linksat the bottom of each page. • Place a logoor bannerin the same locationon every web page.

  8. PAGE BANNER • A page banneris a design element that contains text and/or graphics that helps identifythe site for users. • A typical banner contains a logoand title graphic. • One way to include consistency, repetition, and a page banner in a web site is to create a template.
