  2. Overview These training materials are designed to highlight important information for computer-based test administrations. Not all information from the test administration manual is included in this presentation, so it is imperative that district and school staff read and familiarize themselves with all information in the manual in addition to using these training materials.

  3. Overview • These training materials are based on the Spring 2012 Computer-Based Test Administration Manual. • There are separate training materials for FCAT Writing and the paper-based Spring 2012 Reading, Mathematics, and Science assessments. • Training materials are available in PearsonAccess under the Support tab. • These training materials should be used in conjunction with the Spring 2012 Reading, Mathematics, and Science training materials to ensure that all general information regarding test administration policies and procedures is covered.

  4. Glossary of Terms ePAT • Electronic Practice Assessment Tool • Provides students an opportunity to practice using the computer-based platform prior to testing • Available at all student stations • Download ePAT launcher separately from test content. • Accommodated ePATs are also available. Launcher is bundled with the practice test content for accommodated forms. • Scripts for ePATs are under the Resources tab.

  5. Computer-Based TestSchedule * Each FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake session may last no longer than half the length (3½ hours) of a typical school day. ** The FCAT Reading Retake is offered in paper-based and CBT formats; for 2012 only, Lake will use paper-based. *** Grade 6 FCAT 2.0 Reading tests may begin on Day 2 of the testing window, April 17.

  6. CBT Daily AdministrationSchedule FCAT Reading Retake • FCAT Reading Retake offered in paper-based format for 2012. • Students may have up to the length of a typical school day to complete the test but must complete the test in one day.

  7. CBT Daily AdministrationSchedule Grade 6 FCAT 2.0 Reading • Grade 6 FCAT 2.0 Reading is a CBT and will be administered in two 70-minute sessions over two days. • The FCAT 2.0 testing window is April 16 – 27. Districts may begin scheduling Grade 6 FCAT 2.0 Reading sessions on April 17 (Day 2) and may schedule sessions each day for the remainder of the testing window, if needed. • Paper-based tests (accommodations only) should be administered on April 17 & 18 (Day 2 & 3) of the testing window, with make-up testing administered through April 27 (Day 10), as needed.

  8. What’s New for Spring 2012 STUDENT PLEDGE • Prior to testing, students are required to read and sign a student pledge on the page after the welcome screen. • Students taking a CBT must read and check a box indicating that they agree to adhere to the pledge. Students who do not check the “I agree” box will not be able to proceed into the test. • If a student refuses to check the box, the TA should check the box for the student and note this in the record of required administration information, but the student should be allowed to test.

What’s New for Spring 2012 SEATING CHARTS • TA’s are required to maintain an accurate seating chart for each group of students in their rooms during testing. • All seating charts must indicate the front and back of the room, as well as the direction the students are facing. • If students are moved to a different location during testing, a new seating chart must be created and maintained for this location.

What’s New for Spring 2012 TEST ADMINISTRATORS • ALL TA’s must be certified educators. • TA’s are required to sign a Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement in addition to a Security Agreement. Certification numbers must be recorded on this document. • The FCAT/FCAT 2.0 CBT Administration and Security Agreement has been revised to emphasize the importance of proper training and the possible consequences of test administration irregularities.

  11. What’s New for Spring 2012 SEAL CODES • Students participating in Grade 6 or 10 Reading or FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake using TestNav must enter a seal code to open Session 2 on Day 2 of testing. • Students are not able to return to Session 1 once they have logged in to Session 2. • Students will log in using the same Student Authorization Tickets for both test sessions. • TestHear accommodated forms do not require a seal code to begin testing on Day 2.

  12. What’s New for Spring 2012 TestHear • Accommodated CBT forms (large print, color contrast, zoom, screen reader, assistive devices) are available for eligible students who have such accommodations identified in their individual educational plans (IEPs) or Section 504 plans. • These forms will be accessed using the TestHear software, which is similar to the TestNav 6.9 software but provides accommodations and allows the use of assistive devices. • Students who require accommodated forms must practice using the accommodated ePAT for the specific accommodated form or form combination that they will use during testing.

  13. What’s New for Spring 2012 REFERENCE SHEETS • For this administration, hardcopy reference sheets will be provided for ALL students taking the FCAT Mathematics Retake, not just for students with a paper-based accommodation. • Reference sheets for CBT’s will be included in test administration manual shipments.

  14. What’s New for Spring 2012 HAND-HELD CALCULATORS • After participating in an FCAT Mathematics Retake practice test, a student may request an approved four-function calculator on the day of testing. • Test administrators should have a supply of approved calculators for these students.

  15. Reminders Inappropriate actions by school or district personnel before, during, or after test administration may result in consequences such as test invalidations and/or loss of teaching certification. District Coordinators must ensure that all school administrators, STC’s, TA’s, and proctors receive adequate training prior to test administration. All personnel involved in test administration must read and sign an FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Administration and Security Agreement, provided in Appendix C, and test administrators must sign a Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement, also provided in Appendix C.

  16. Reminders • Students may not have any electronic or recording devices including, but not limited to, cell phones and smart phones, at their desks, in their pockets, or anywhere they can reach them during testing, even if the devices are turned off or the students do not use them. • If a student is found to be in possession of ANY electronic device(s) during testing, his or her test must be invalidated in order to successfully enforce this policy. Students and parents must be made aware of this policy prior to testing.

  17. Reminders • If a student begins a session and leaves campus without finishing (due to an appointment, illness, etc.), he or she will NOT be allowed to complete that session. • No exceptions will be made once the student leaves the school’s campus, so parents and students must be made aware of this policy. • If you have concerns about a student, you should not allow the student to begin. Instead, arrange to administer the test to that student on a make-up day.

Reminders Schools must administer an ePAT using the appropriate script provided in the Spring 2012 CBT Manual to all students to be tested to ensure that students have enough time to become familiar with the item types and features of the testing platform. ePATs can be used at any time up to the day of the test. The ePAT is also available for students to practice with on their own.

  20. Students to be Tested Grades 6 and 10 Reading • In general, all students currently enrolled in grades 6 and 10 will take the FCAT 2.0 Reading test. Retakes • Students who entered Grade 9 prior to Fall 2009 and have not yet passed the Reading portion of the Grade 10 FCAT participate in the FCAT Reading Retake. (The CBT manual incorrectly states “prior to Fall 2010”) • Students who entered Grade 9 in Fall 2009 or earlier and have not yet passed the Mathematics portion of the Grade 10 FCAT participate in the FCAT Mathematics Retake. • Students who entered Grade 9 in Fall 2009 and did not pass Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading participate in the FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake.

Students to be Tested Grades 10–Adult (AD) Students • Students who entered Grade 9 in Fall 2009 and beyond participate in Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading/FCAT 2.0 Reading Retake. • First-time Grade 10 students who entered Grade 9 in Fall 2010 and beyond do NOT take an FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Mathematics test. • Students enrolled in Grade 10 participate in FCAT 2.0 Reading regardless of any ACT or SAT concordant scores on file.

  22. Students to be Tested English Language Learners (ELLs) • All ELLs are expected to participate in statewide assessments (per the FDOE’s Office of Student Academic Achievement through Language Acquisition). • If an ELL has been receiving services in an ESOL program operated in accordance with an approved ELL plan for one year or less AND a majority of the student’s ELL committee determines that it is appropriate, the ELL may be exempt from this FCAT 2.0 Reading administration. • Exempt ELLs must participate in the CELLA assessment or they will be counted as “not assessed” and this will impact the participation rate calculation.

  23. Students to be Tested Students With Disabilities • All students with disabilities participate in the statewide assessment program by taking one of the following: • FCAT/FCAT 2.0 without accommodations, • FCAT/FCAT 2.0 with accommodations, or • Florida Alternate Assessment. • All determinations regarding participation in the statewide assessment program must be documented in the student’s IEP or Section 504 plan. • See Appendix A of the manual for information regarding accommodations.

  24. Test Invalidation • A test MUST be invalidated if either of the following circumstances occurs: • A student has an electronic device during testing • A student is cheating during testing • A test MAY be invalidated if one of the following circumstances occurs: • A student becomes ill and is unable to finish • A student is not allowed the correct amount of time • A error occurs in the administration of an accommodation • An error occurs in test administration or procedures • A student is disruptive during testing • A student works in the wrong session

  25. Test Invalidation • The District Coordinator will advise schools of the appropriate course of action if invalidation is being considered. Remember that the purpose of invalidation is to identify when the validity of test results has been compromised. • More information about test invalidation and instructions may be found on page 15 of the Spring 2012 CBT Manual.

  26. Test Administrator Before, During, and After Testing

  27. Test AdministratorBefore Testing • Read the test administration manual. • Read the Test Administration Policies and Procedures and sign the FCAT/FCAT 2.0 Administration and Security Agreement. • Read and sign the Test Administrator Prohibited Activities Agreement. • Establish an appropriate setting for test administration and remove or cover any unauthorized aids in the testing room. • Prepare and receive all materials needed for test administration. • Ensure that your students and parents understand the testing policies prior to the first day of testing. • If you are administering tests to students who require special accommodations, become familiar with the accommodations and discuss with your school coordinator how accommodations will be provided. • Ensure that you are familiar with how to open TestNav or TestHear to the login screen for each student computer prior to testing.

  28. Establish an Appropriate Setting • Tests should be administered in a room that has comfortable seating, good lighting, adequate ventilation, and sufficient workspace. • Students must not be able to easily view other students’ computer screens, work folders, or test and answer books. During the practice test, check the configuration of your testing room to make sure you will be able to provide a secure environment during testing. If necessary, use visual blocks. • Post the sign that reads TESTING—Please Do Not Disturb and display starting and stopping times as soon as testing begins. • Remove or cover all visual aids in the room. Students may not have access to any unauthorized aids. Discuss any concerns with your STC.

  29. Establish an appropriate setting When you arrive on the day of testing, open each student workstation in the testing room to the student login screen as indicated in the script, but do not log in for students. Display the student comment form URL, or create shortcuts on student workstations to ensure each student is able to complete a form after testing. Ensure that you have a way to contact the STC and school techcon without leaving the room unattended.

  30. Materials Needed for Testing CBT Administration Manual • You will need the Spring 2012 Computer-Based Test Administration Manual to read the test administration scripts to students. • When testing students who are allowed certain accommodations, you may need to modify the scripts. It is especially important that you review the scripts BEFORE testing begins to determine the necessary modifications.Do not interpret this as permission to paraphrase test items. • Scripts and instructions for administration of accommodated CBT forms (large print, color contrast, zoom, screen reader, assistive devices) are provided in Appendix A.

  31. Materials Needed for Testing CBT Administration Manual • Appendix D on page 311 is the CBT Test Administrator Quick Reference Guide. • This guide lists possible error messages students may encounter, explanations for each message, and possible solutions. • This guide is a helpful resource for TA’s during testing. 34

Materials Needed for Testing Student Authorization Tickets • The School Assessment Coordinator sections of the manual provide instructions for scheduling students into testsessions and printing Student Authorization Tickets. • For each test session, each student needs a Login ID and a test code (password), which are printed on the Student Authorization Tickets. • Students will need a pen or pencil during testing to sign their tickets. • Students taking the FCAT 2.0 Reading tests will log in using the same Student Authorization Tickets for both sessions.

Materials Needed for Testing Student Authorization Tickets (cont.) • Student Authorization Tickets must be handled in a secure manner and returned to the school assessment coordinator immediately after each day of testing is completed. • The test administrator will give each student a ticket only AFTER all students have entered the testing room, as instructed in the script, and all tickets must be collected BEFORE students leave the testing room.

Materials Needed for Testing Session Roster • A Session Roster is a list of all students scheduled in a test session and displays important information including: • Test Administration • Session Name • Test to be Administered • Test Code (password) • Student Name • Student ID • Student Date of Birth • Class information • Login ID • Blank space to record attendance information and accommodations used. • The Session Roster may be used to record required administration information.

Materials Needed for Testing Session Roster (cont.) • Session Rosters must be handled in a secure manner and returned to the school assessment coordinator immediately after each test session is completed. • The School Assessment Coordinator sections of the Spring 2012 CBT Manual provide instructions for creating and printing Session Rosters.

  38. Materials Needed for Testing Test Group Code • A test group code is a unique 4-digit number used to identify a group of students testing together. • Each group of tested students, initial and make-up, in a testing room should receive a unique test group code. • District Coordinators will either create and distribute test group codes to all STC’s or will instruct them to create their own unique 4-digit codes. • Students will enter the test group code before beginning the test, as indicated in the scripts.

Materials Needed for Testing Seal Code • A seal code is a unique 4-digit number used to allow students to access Session 2 of the computer-based FCAT 2.0 Reading tests (Retakes and Gr 6 and 10 givenon TestNav) after they have completed Session 1. • Seal codes will be provided in PearsonAccess, and all students in a test session will use the same seal code. • Seal codes should not be given to students until directed to do so on Day 2 when Session 2 is administered. • TestHear accommodated tests do not require a seal code to proceed to Session 2 on Day 2.

  43. Materials Needed for Testing Mathematics Reference Sheet • Paper copies of the FCAT Mathematics Retake Reference Sheet are provided for ALL students taking the FCAT Mathematics Retake. • The CBT has a pop-up window that includes the FCAT Mathematics Retake Reference Sheet. • The reference sheet is also available at www.FLAssessments.com/SpringRMS and as a perforated sheet in Appendix E of the manual and may be photocopied if necessary.

  44. Materials Needed for Testing Mathematics Reference Sheet (cont.) • Once students complete the test, the TA should collect all reference sheets, and the STC should destroy them by recycling, or return them, as directed by the District Coordinator. • Used reference sheets are secure materials.

  45. Materials Needed for Testing Calculators • The CBT FCAT Mathematics Retake has a built-in, 4-function calculator. • Once a student has participated in a practice test, he or she may request to use an approved hand-held 4-function calculator. • Your school should have an adequate supply of approved 4-function calculators. No other calculators may be used. • Students with visual impairments may use the approved large key/large display calculators or approved talking calculators supplied by the district. If supply is inadequate, schools may receive approval to use comparable calculators regularly used in their classrooms. Such calculators must be basic 4-function models and must not have functions that are unavailable on approved calculators.

  46. Materials Needed for Testing Computer-Based Test Work Folders • The Florida CBT Work Folder is a blank piece of yellow 11x17 paper folded in half. Work folders arrived in your shipment of test administration manuals. • For the Mathematics test session, students are provided with work folders to work the problems. One work folder should be sufficient for each student; however, students may request additional folders. • Work folders are to be distributed to students at the beginning of each Mathematics test session. • STC’s and TA’s must ensure that students have enough desk space to use their folders.

  47. Materials Needed for Testing Computer-Based Test Work Folders (cont.) • Once students complete the Mathematics test, the test administrator must collect all work folders. • The STC should package the used folders in the District Coordinator ONLY box. • Used work folders are secure materials.
