Archival material specifics • Unique & scattered material, high quantities, very diverse types of content & carriers • Wide public (from researchers to general public – genealogists) • Hierachical descriptions + importance of contextual information • Legacy data issue : descriptions are a combination of structured data and semi-structured data, with sometimes consistency / quality issues • Lack of standards for description of unique / specific material

  3. Linked data added value • Provide a « hub » to make it easier to locate relevant material that is scattered across several institutions • Improve browsing experience by better linking items and allowing to discover related material • Linking to external datasource, incl. general interest content (e.g. DBpedia) & library content (documents, authorities)

  4. Vocabularies DC Terms Bibliontology (BIBO) FOAF SKOS RDFS FRBR & wip on ISAD(G) MODS Technology pieces • Technologies • persistent URIs for the key entities • web pages in XHTML containing RDFa • Linked Data RDF/XML • SPARQL endpoints

Context = NDIIPP (digital preservation) • High quantities of heterogeneous material, scattered among institutions • Goal = enable the discovery of resources • Target = curators, librarians • Application of Linked Data • Give URIs to every resource • Expose as Linked Data • Open source components • Enrichment with external datasets
