  2. Introduction The Hunger Games is set several hundred years into the future in the country of Panem. Panem is in the center of North America. Panem consists of the Capital city and 12 Districts. The Capitol has complete control over the Districts and each year selects 24 children to compete in the Hunger Games, a blood bath where the tributes kill each other for the Capitol's amusement. Primrose Everdeen is picked as a tribute for the games, but her sister Katniss volunteers and takes her place.

  3. Protagonist/Antagonist The protagonist of the book is Katniss Everdeen, a brave 15 year old girl who volunteers to protect her sister. The antagonist is Cato, he volunteered so that he would have a chance to win the games and get rich, and he repeatedly tries to kill Katniss.

  5. Identification of Central Conflict There are two main conflicts in The Hunger Games. First, the obvious conflict is between the 24 tributes trying to kill each other and win the Hunger Games. Who will when? The second conflict is tributes and the Capital. Katniss and several other tributes want to show that the Capital doesn't own them and that they are themselves and not what the Capitol tries to make them into.

  6. Minor Characters • Katniss's mom breaks down after her husband's death and leaves Katniss to provide for the family at the age of 12. This experience helps Katniss when she is thrown into the arena. • Cinna is another minor character. He is Katniss's stylist and he provides her with outfits before the games that give her sponsors later and a good advantage. • Madge, the mayor's daughter provides Katniss with a mockingjay pin that inspires her in the arena.

  8. What Critics Said Eric Goldman's book review tells how Suzanne Collins writes in a futuristic manner. The review also tells how the critics liked the book and gave positive ratings. Goldman's review also states that almost everyone who read the book enjoyed it. Roger Ebert's review compares how similar Panem is with the United States. It tells how United States citizens' lifestyles were very similar to those of the Capitol's citizen.

  10. My Opinion I thought that The Hunger Games was an excellent book with a great this book story and plot. I also think that Suzanne Collins was extremely creative with this book, making it futuristic and barbaric at the same time. This book is definitely worth reading.
