  1. GEO DC Task Definition DocumentSoumya D. MohantyAEI Outline Purpose of the document Organization of DC work As reflected in this document Tasks and Tools Tables Additions for the future GEO DC Workshop, Hannover

  2. Purpose of the Document • Blueprint for work • Everyone gets a common global view • New members can easily update themselves. • Provides cohesion to our work • Allows a systematic approach to a complicated task • Everyone shares the DC knowledge base • Organizer of tasks • Task Tables • Tools identified and their software status • People Involved • Repository of thoughts on related important issues GEO DC Workshop, Hannover

  3. Organization of DC Work • DC work is naturally divisible into four Phases • Detector Commissioning • Short data stretches, subset of channels & components, Manual analysis with simple tools, qualitative information, quick and dirty investigations in small groups • Detector / data Characterization (~ present LSC DC stage) • Enough data to overwhelm manual mode, sophisticated tools, quantitative information, goal oriented investigationsLong technical reports • Production of Good Quality Data • Pipeline required, Manual analysis impossible (but can bedone on summary data), Focused investigations on pipeline results. • Establishing Confidence • Use all our collective knowledge to supply vetoes for candidate GW signals. GEO DC Workshop, Hannover

  4. Tasks and Tools Tables • Each Phase has a table for • Goals to be met in that phase and deadlines for each (if any) • Detailed list of tasks associated with a goal and People involved • Tools required for a task and People involved in their development, maintenance and improvement • Current Status of tables • Phase 1 : Goals and tasks need definition, tools well defined • Phase 2 : Goals and tasks better defined, tools well defined • Phase 3 : Some Goals defined, some tools well defined • Phase 4 : Virtually nothing defined. • People required for All tables! GEO DC Workshop, Hannover

  5. Additions for the future • A “Living Reviews” style review of knowledge gained in each Phase • A Section on the software environment for production mode (GEO-DAS) : Phase 3 • Prioritized lists: tasks/Goals/Tools • Make the document a web site for interaction and not a huge document which no one will read. GEO DC Workshop, Hannover
