Monday April 28thJF #4 Which is worse, life in prison without being able to see anyone, or the death penalty? explain • Objectives: /aka what I’m learning & the take aways: 1) independent reading time 2) record of meaningful reading 3) daily close reading practice 4) reflection on learning – take away 5) review topics for topic grid project 6) look at an exemplar for inspiration – model 7) note taking to practice processing info and recording it to reinforce meaning 8) understand how metaphor/analogy leads to deeper meaning & reading 9) practice applying analogy/metaphor • I can SSR (8 + 2) and record something meaningful from my reading – next slide • I can decide what topics I am going to look for in my reading – see the example of the use of the sticky notes • I can take notes from the next slide on what the topic grid should look like – correct cites etc. • I can understand after taking notes on deeper reading – how to them. • I can practice with my theme for the topic grid project on writing analogies/metaphors • I can hand in chapter 10 work • I can review of chapters 8 – 10 – writing important notes/quotes • I can remember to do a take away – take aways due Friday

  10. Quiz to Frame 1 (chapters 1 – 10) • So end of Frankenstein’s story – what happened? Summary.Can we trust Frankenstein as a story teller? Why/why not? • What theme did you find in chapters 1 – 10? How do you connect to that theme? • How can you make an anlogy for that theme? • Do an analogy of an emotion for a character from the story • Hand this in.

The first replies • "Yes, I'm positive.“ • A proton, a neutron and an electron go to a show, the proton and electron pay but the neutron is let in for free – why? • Because for a neutron there is no charge. • What was the artistic gunslinger good at? • Drawing • I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said she would not tell me – why? • Because if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thursday May 1st JF #7 what is your definition of a friend? • Objectives: /aka what I’m learning & the take aways: 1) reflection on learning – take away 2) practice making meaning 3)apply surface/deeper reading/meaning 4) collaborate with partner on book chapters 5) prepare materials for assessment tomorrow. • I can answer the following questions: • What is accurate about the picture on the right? • What is inaccurate? • What would be a good title for it? • What is the deeper meaning in the picture? • With my topic grid partner I can read chapters 15 – 16 • I will be sure to have my materials ready for tomorrow. • I can remember to do a take away – take aways due tomorrow

Friday May 2nd JF #9 FWF ~ watch video & select a line from it to free write! • Objectives: /aka what I’m learning & the take aways: 1) independent reading time 2) record of meaningful reading 3) daily close reading practice 4) reflection on learning – take away 5) practice protocol reading with new skills of deeper reading 6) work on options – topic grid, independent reading or portfolio. • I can SSR (8 + 2) and record something meaningful from my reading • I can read chapter 17 and complete the protocol observation sheet for chapter 17 – ready to share and hand in on Monday! • I can get my portfolio up-to-date – see next slide or • I can go to the lab to work on the topic grid project (at least 5 columns) for Frankenstein • I can hand in my take awaysI will have 12+ of them
