Progressivism What Happened to CamellaTeoli? 12 yr old whose scalp torn off by a machine Time Period 1890-1920 Journalists- Intellectuals- Political Reformers- Expose unsafe conditions face by factory workers, women & Children Progressive Movement Questioned the dominant role of large corporations (big businesses) Basic Aims of Progressives Return control of the govt. to the people Make govt. more responsive to the people Progressives rarely completely agreed with each other on the problems or solutions, but they generally shared these 4 goals: Restore economic opportunities Carry Nation Worked toward prohibition by walking into saloons scolding customers a& destroying bottles w/ hatchet Correct injustices in American life Problems Cities Faced: Political bosses rewarded supporters w/ jobs & kickbacks & openly bought votes w/ favors & bribes
