    4. 3/27/2012 4 Overview These tips are to assist you in overseeing students mastery of our documentation system The tips discussed are aids to assist you in your clinical time on our units

    5. 3/27/2012 5 Vocabulary eMar- electronic Medication Administration record Ad Hoc folder- this folder contains all forms for charting Task List- contains activities and tasks for the nurse scheduled throughout the shift Targeted focused assessments-assessments focused on specific body systems as identified in the care plan MAW-Medication Administration Wizard

    6. 3/27/2012 6 Checking Student Charting Utilize the nursing tab. The nursing tab is found on the menu under assessment results. The nursing tab provides an easy way to view charting in a flowchart design.

    7. 3/27/2012 7 Task List vs. Ad Hoc Check with unit Manager/CNS regarding charting activities/tasks from the task list vs. charting from the ad hoc folder. Units may not want students to chart activities/tasks off the task list. Students may be directed to chart activities/tasks from the ad hoc folder.

    8. 3/27/2012 8 Targeted Focused Assessments On the general units physical assessments are focused on targeted specific body systems. These focused assessments are designated by the nurse when creating the care plan These focused body systems will display when the physical assessment is accessed for charting If you want your students to assess more than the targeted systems have the students access additional systems thru the ad hoc charting folder.

    9. 3/27/2012 9 Medication Administration Students should not administer medication that has an eyeglass in the left upper corner of the MAR box. This eyeglass signifies that the nurse has not reviewed and signed off the order. Students should prepare medication from the eMar. The eMar continues information regarding preparation, location, and length of administration that is not found on the Task list

    10. 3/27/2012 10 Medication Administration Wizard (MAW) Must have a computer/scanner at the point of care for medication administration Identify medications to be administered using eMAR Gather medications-keep in original package with barcode intact Select MAW icon from the Action Toolbar Scan patient wristband,scan medication, if no errors administer the medication, sign medication given via MAW

    11. 3/27/2012 11 Error Messages- MAW Various error messages may appear Medication not on patient profile Different route of medication than ordered Expired medication Always call Pharmacy with these messages

    13. 3/27/2012 13 Therapeutic Class View This feature is located at the bottom of the eMar menu. Clicking on this option will give you the medications organized in drug classes

    14. 3/27/2012 14 Remember Suspend Reinforce with students to suspend the computer chart when leaving the computer This will prevent open information concerning the patient from being viewed by people passing by

    15. 3/27/2012 15 Patient List The patient list icon is located in the left upper hand corner of the screen. By clicking on this icon you can view all patients in the unit

    16. 3/27/2012 16 Order Summary To view recent orders placed for patient find Order Summary under Menu Click on this option and orders placed for patient will be displayed in chronological order
