  4. What is Apprenticeship? • An agreement between someone who wants to learn a skilled trade and an employer who needs a skilled worker • Training takes place under a certified journeyperson • Leads to a Certificate of Qualification (CQ)

  5. ApprenticeshipTraining • Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training and in-class technical training.

  6. Apprenticeship Training 3 Components of Apprenticeship Training • Practical hands-on experience • paid work experience • Skill Development • apprentice logbook • Technical in-school training • 4-8 weeks each year Qualify to write the Certification Exam

  7. 4-6 theory courses 2000 hrs 4-6 theory courses 2000 hrs 4-6 theory courses 2000hrs 4-6 theory courses 2000 hrs Pathways to Apprenticeship (sample 8000 hr trade) • Direct Entry • Finish grade 12, find employment in a designated trade, register as an apprentice • Pre-Apprenticeship • Finish grade 12, completed a pre-apprenticeship program at NSCC • Find employment in a designated trade, register as an apprentice and receive apprenticeship credit • Youth Apprenticeship • Find employment in a designated trade and register as a youth apprentice Youth apprentices initially focus on the practical and skill development training components.

Workit Youth Apprenticeship Youth Apprentice • In or out of school youth • 16-19 years of age (inclusive) • Employed in a designated trade • Employer willing and eligible to provide trainning Registration • Contact the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator • Sign an Apprenticeship Registration Agreement • Begin training “Earn While You Learn”
