  1. SLRM Project CABLE – Creating a Better Learning Experience Presented by: Susan Reid & Shani Gbaja

  2. Aim of CABLE • To create a broad parity of experience between on campus and distance learning students • To focus on the pre and post enrolment stages of the student lifecycle with a view to improving administrative processes and communications systems.

  3. UEL & ICS Collaboration UEL entered into partnership with ICS in 2004 • Currently 20 UEL distance learning undergraduate programmes delivered by ICS. • About 4000 learners doing wide ranging university courses in Education, Law, Psychology, Computing, Business & Management. • Partners currently operate separate administrative and VLE systems with no automatic transfer of electronic data

  4. Key Areas • Improve tutor engagement with students • Incorporate provision of on-campus Student Support Services to distance learning students • Streamline enrolment procedure with the introduction of On line registration process

  5. Key Benefits to Organisations • Proactive engagement with students, improving the student communication strategy • Relieve the administrative burden and improve efficiency • Colleagues and partners can collaborate to improve other stages of the student lifecycle.

Higher Ambitions Objectives • ‘Support to enable the UK HE sector to become a world leader in transnational education based on e-learning and to significantly grow market share in this sector by 2015’. • ‘Growing a diverse range of models of Higher Education provision. More flexible delivery including PT, WBL,FD and study whilst living at home’. • ‘Improved partnerships between businesses and universities, with universities being more responsive and businesses being active partners rather than passive customers’.

Key Benefits to Wider Community • Consolidates collaboration between university and business to expand the range of delivery models • The lessons learnt from this project be useful to stakeholders across the sector. • Sustainability and wider applicability of project outcomes after the end of the project
