  1. Cell Organelles Tiny organs that help the cell function.

  2. Cell Membrane Cytoplasm Endoplasmic Reticulum Cell Wall Centriole Vacuole Nucleus Chloroplast Ribosome Golgi Body Lysosome Mitochondria Cell parts

  3. Cell Membrane A double layer that protects the cell and allows materials in and out.

  4. Nucleus The control center of the cell. Where DNA is copied. This tells the cell what to do. (The brain of the cell)

  5. Cytoplasm Jelly-like fluid inside the cell that protects and supports the organelles, takes up space and controls temperature.

  6. Ribosomes Make protein for the cell.

  7. Transports chemicals between cell and within cell. Breaks down some medicines. Makes lipids (fat). Packages proteins for release from the cell. Rough E.R. has ribosomes on it. Smooth E.R. does not have ribosomes on it. **Provides a system of transport from the nucleus to the cell.** Endoplasmic Reticulum

  8. Golgi Body Stores chemicals    May produce ER Makes Vacuoles Packages and transports materials out of the cell

  9. Digests food particles, wastes, and foreign invaders. Protects the cell Lysosome

  10. Site of cell respiration. Creates energy for the cell by breaking down food to form ATP (A special moleculeof energy) Mitochondria

  11. Vacuole Produces pressure on cell wall for support. Stores water and other chemicals. May store wastes. Take up most of the area in a plant cell.

  12. Cell Wall Plant Cell Provides protection from injury to the cell and provides support.

  13. Chloroplast Plant Cell Where the cell gets nutrients by photosynthesis. Contains Chlorophyll – the green pigment

  14. Plant Cell vs. Animal Cell Plant Cells Have all the same organelles animal cells and… • Have cell walls • Have chloroplasts • Have big vacuoles
