  3. Viewing • Version 1 (sounds down): How do you think Paula behaves towards Maria and Jens? What should she have done differently? • Version 1 (sounds up): Watch 1 again. Identify the following moments: A Paula indicates she id not interested in chatting to Maria B Paula gives Jens an abrupt welcome C Paula asks Maria to do her a favor D Maria and Jens have to introduce themselves

  4. Watch Video 2 with the sound down. What differences are there in the body language of the 3 characters? • Watch 2 again with sound up. Focus on these moments: A Paula engages Maria in some friendly small talk B Paula includes Jens and Maria C Paula pays attention to Jens

  7. Request I wonder if you could… Would you mind… Could you… I’ve got a favor to ask you. Could you… Responds Sure. / certainly. Not at all. I suppose to. Well, that is not so easy / a bit of a problem.

  8. Pair work • Greet each other and make the following requests. Remember to use language that is appropriate to the nature of the requests, and to your relationship with the other person.
