North High School Freshman/ New Enrollee Parent Orientation 2014-2015
My Big Campus • A classroom management system. • Teachers use it to communicate with students, post resources, give quizzes and tests, etc… • Students can use it to communicate with teachers and students, stay organized, find missing work
EdEase Parent Access • Parents and students must create an account to have access to the grade program (see administrative assistants: Nina Lindauer & Cathy Hoover) • Use to check grades, attendance, discipline, standardized tests, & email teachers. • Please use with moderation…teachers do not update grades everyday. We recommend checking once a week.
EdEaseGradebook program 1. Email teachers with concerns 2. Click on course to see grades
Attendance • Extremely important, especially on block scheduling. • Students have 6 minute passing periods. Students have a sufficient amount of time during passing periods to get from point A to point B so they should not be receiving tardy marks.
Block Scheduling • Students will meet every other day with their classes. Green days are 1st, 3rd, 5th & 7th periods. White days are 2nd, 4th, 6th, & 8th periods • Advisory Period-3rd period every other day. Students can use this period to get help from teachers, meet with tutors, use as a study hall. Very important that students use this time wisely! • Organization is key on block scheduling!
ThinkPads • Valuable resource, but students need to learn self control and digital citizenship. • Saving documents-important to save to multiple locations (H drive, flash drive, Dropbox, Google docs, etc…) • Todd Beck is North’s support technician. He is available before and after school to address netbook issues and problems. • Email- Todd.beck@evsc.k12.in.us
Dress Code • This is an EVSC policy. All high schools have agreed to adopt the dress code policy. • Shirts: any solid color, stripes, or plaids. Must have a collar, logo must be smaller than 3” • Pants/Shorts: uniform, dress, or cargo • Colors: navy, black, tan, brown, khaki • Footwear: no flip flops • See handout for detailed list
Future SLC placement • Freshman will take a variety of surveys and interest inventories during their Freshman year to determine their placement in the Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) • Students need to take these seriously and answer questions honestly to ensure proper placement. • Parents and students will receive more SLC information throughout the year.
