  2. Aim and Purpose of Workshops Workshops are designed to equip coaches with the knowledge and skills to integrate good-practice techniques into their coaching sessions Aimed at supporting coaches to deliver the right material, the correct way, with total confidence

  3. Activity 1 What do you know about the workshops? In small groups, pool your knowledge of sports coach UK workshops to produce a list of workshop groupings and titles. If you feel the title is not self-explanatory, provide a short explanation of the workshop’s content

  4. Activity 2 In same groups, discuss what know think are the main benefits and ‘selling points’ of the workshops? Look at your list and see if you can prioritise these benefits to reflect what coaches would really need and want from professional development workshops

  5. Why Coaches Rate Our Workshops Led byexperienced coaches with real passion for their subject. Conveniently held at a venue close to home, usually in the evenings or at the weekend. Small groups – with between 6 and 25 people on any workshop, you can share your experiences with other coaches to find practical solutions that work.

  16. Safeguarding and Protecting Children Raises awareness of abuse and poor practice; gives coaches tools to deal with issues sensitively, appropriately and effectively. Outcomes for coaches: provide children and young people with a positive and enriching sporting experience recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of child abuse and poor practice take appropriate action if concerns about a child arise

Activity 4 • In small groups – discuss the issues in the following scenarios then suggest how you might deal with them • A gifted young performer in an under-14s squad requests individual, one-to-one coaching, even though they are part of a group • You are asked to take a squad to an away fixture by yourself

Safeguarding and Protecting Children 2 Consolidate and update learning from first workshop; opportunity to share best practice and learn from other coaches’ experiences to help you create a positive, child-centred sporting environment. Coach outcomes leave the workshop with the ability to consider situations objectively and deal with them effectively whenever necessary learn the key codes of conduct principles learn the 7-step method to make informed and appropriate decisions regarding children’s welfare

This workshop will show you the best ways to make this a reality. Your tutor will give you practical advice on how to adapt your existing skills to make your coaching sessions attractive to everyone.

  34. Activity 8 • In small groups • In your role as an experienced coach working with children and young people, you are asked to be part of a group to draw up a list of ‘top tips’ for promoting positive behaviour within your young participants • Record your list on the flipchart sheet provided
