  1. RNAV APPROACHES Status of EASA airworthiness and Ops material B. Rabiller DGAC/DCS November 2007

  2. Scope of EASA airworthiness and Ops material (1/2) RNAV (GNSS) Rwy 33 AMC 20-XX Step 1 (RNP APCH / lateral only) AMC 20- LPV (APV SBAS) AMC 20-XX Step 2 (Step 1+ APV Baro VNAV

  3. Scope of EASA airworthiness and Ops material (2/2) AMC 20-XZ (RNP AR)

  4. AMC 20-XX Step 1 Airworthiness approval and operational criteria for RNP approach (RNP APCH) operations • Technically close • Lateral navigation performance + functionalities fully defined (LNAV only) • Airworthiness and Ops criteria fully defined (LNAV only) • Fully consistent with ICAO PBN « RNP APCH navigation specification » • A NPA should be issued soon by EASA. • Document already used by some EASA certification team for airworthiness approval and by some Ops authority for operational approval.

  5. AMC 20-XX Step 2 Airworthiness approval and operational criteria for RNP approach (RNP APCH) operations including APV Baro VNAV operation. • In addition to AMC 20-XX Step 1: • Should define vertical navigation performance + vertical functionalities • Vertical aspect should be added to the existing AMC 20-XX step 1 Airworthiness and Ops criteria • Technically based on ICAO PBN manual VOL II attachment A • It is still intended to have a first draft by the end of 2007

  6. AMC 20-LPV (1/2) Airworthiness approval and operational criteria for LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance) approach operation • First draft issued in September 2007 • Under internal review • Several aspects have been already reviewed and discussed: • the aircraft failure classification during a LPV approach • FTE and Autopilot mode (if used): no specific demonstration if ILS autopilot channel is used • As a first step, necessity to have at the arrival airport or at the alternate a non GNSS approach (either LPV or RNP APCH) to be protected against GNSS or SBAS « failure »

  7. AMC 20-LPV (2/2) Airworthiness approval and operational criteria for LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance) approach operation • Take into account recent discussion with FAA, EUROCONTROL and lessons learnt from the on-going « Clermont-Ferrand » DGAC project • A “EASA” meeting should be organised by the end of this year to consolidate this draft

  8. AMC 20-XZ (1/2) Airworthiness and operational approval for RNP AR operations • Consistent with ICAO PBN Manual and FAA AC 90-101 for RNP AR APCH • Additional scope • Departures • Maintaining track • Engine failure • Probable failures • Improbable failures • TOGA to LNAV • Lateral deviation displays for RNP<0.3 • RNP AR operations require special authorisation from the ops authority.

  9. AMC 20-XZ (2/2) Airworthiness and operational approval for RNP AR operations • Concept flexibility (accuracy, path terminator) • Specific requirement are provided for: • RNP AR operation with RNP<0.3 Nm • RNP AR operation with RF legs • Performance: Laterally based on GNSS and vertically based on baro VNAV. • High reliance on crew procedure and training • Document sent to EASA (mid September 2007) for NPA publication
