  1. Skill Training programmes for people with disability On his way back from the market, a lot of eyes were set on Ajay. People looking at him with sympathy, people feeling sorry for him, a kid asking her parents why this man was not like all the other people around. This was a normal day in Ajay’s life. But today was one of those days when he wished he was “normal”, he was a part of the crowd and not someone people pitied. Today, he was rejected for a job because of his disability because according to the interviewer he didn’t have the skills and wouldn’t be able to adjust to the work environment. Sounds sad, right? But people with disabilities are accustomed to this kind of discrimination. Life is not fair to anyone. But it has been extra unfair to differently-abled people. Right from the time of their birth, they start facing challenges and the prejudice from the society adds on to their misery. Poverty, social isolation, inadequate community support are some of the many challenges faced by people with disabilities. With the advancement in technology, there have been many new inventions that have made life easier for differently-abled people. The government and many other organizations have been working for their welfare. But a lot more needs to be done to give every person with a disability the life that they deserve.

  2. Everyone deserves to live a life of dignity. A life where they feel respected and valued. That’s why it’s very important to provide equal opportunities to people with disabilities. How To Provide Equal Opportunities To People With Disability- Making changes to a disabled person’s work pattern or location Changes can be made to the workplace to help the individual Ensure information is provided in accessible formats Support disability applications Skill training for people with disability ● ● ● ● ● Tech Mahindra Foundation Tech Mahindra Foundation is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Tech Mahindra that was set up in 2007 to equip young men and women of the country with the skills they need to start a successful career in different fields. TMF’s key areas of focus are- ● ● ● Empowerment of girls/women Empowerment of people with disabilities Corporate volunteering Tech Mahindra Foundation has always been empathetic towards differently-abled people and their needs and has been working to empower them for many years. They want to create a world where people with disabilities are given equal opportunities and social inclusion in all aspects of life. The foundation has mandated that 10% of its all beneficiaries should be people with disabilities. They have also launched two premier courses for differently-abled students to achieve their vision. These courses are- SMART+ (Skills-for Market Training for Persons with Disabilities), and ARISE+ (All Round Improvement in School Education for Children with Disabilities) SMART+ (Skills-for Market Training for Persons with Disabilities) TMF launched this program in 2013 with the aim of helping disabled people with their skill training. The curriculum of the program is designed for people with a diverse range of disabilities to receive the training.

  3. The course covers some foundation skills (Basic IT and Computers, Spoken English, and Workplace Readiness) to prepare students for various employment opportunities. The course also covers some specific skills (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Hospitality, IT-Enabled Services (ITES), Retail, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), and Healthcare for those who want a career in a specific field. The program is specially designed to cater to the needs of differently-abled people and to prepare them for better job opportunities. ARISE+ (All Round Improvement in School Education for Children with Disabilities ) TMF has introduced this program for children between the ages of 3-18 years who are studying in government schools so as to convert them into confident and determined adults. The foundation, under this program, supports various organizations that are working for the education of differently-abled children across the country. The program helps school students become a part of mainstream education by helping them with their needs and providing them guidance. It also counsels the parents and family members of students with disabilities The main focus of the foundation under this program are ● early detection of disabilities in children ● support in the education of children with disabilities and leveraging assistive technology ● counseling for parents, teachers, and other caregivers with techniques to take care of children with special needs Tech Mahindra Foundation has collaborated with several foundations for differently-abled people for this program so as to provide the best training to its beneficiaries. Everyone deserves equal chances and opportunities in life no matter where they come from, or who they are. SMART+ and ARISE+ are an initiative by Tech Mahindra Foundation to give these opportunities to people with disabilities by providing them with the assets that they’ll need to excel in their careers and in life.
