Driving Licence Apostille The process of getting an apostille sticker on a driving license is called a driving license apostille. This is required to legitimise the document, authenticate the identity, or give the document as proof for a visa or permanent residency application. This can also be given as proof of address in certain circumstances. It is a process to prove that your certificates are genuine and your intentions are good. Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs centralised and controlled the process, and now everything has been decentralised to the secretariat and RPOs. For initialising the process, the
document has to be attested by a notary. The official notary will attest to the document with signature and stamp. Then the document will be passed on to the Home Department, where the assigned officer would legalise it. Only the assigned officer is authorised to legalise the document. The document also has to be legalised by the Sub Divisional Magistrate. In some cases, even the legalisation by Human Resource Department is also necessary. After all the legalisations are made to the document, it receives the apostille sticker. The offline route would be cumbersome compared to hiring an online service provider. The agency will facilitate the document through different departments with ease. The cost of the process is variable as the legalisation requirements for different purposes are different. The offline channel usually takes two-three weeks. An exact date cannot be determined as various factors affect this.
