ISO has a solution for organizations that wish to improve the quality of their products and services and consistently meet the expectations of their customers. The ISO 9000 family of standards covers several aspects of quality management and includes some of ISO’s most well-known standards. ISO 9000 FAMILY QUALITY MANAGEMENT Among the ISO standards, only ISO 9001 is certifiable (although certification is not required.) It defines the criteria for a quality management system. The tool can be used by any organization, no matter how large or small. Over one million organizations with ISO 9001 certifications come from over 170 countries. The standard also incorporates quality management principles, a process-based approach, and a customer-focused approach. ISO’s quality management principles explain these principles in greater detail. When ISO 9001 is used, customers receive consistent product and service quality. ISO 9000:2015 Quality management systems – Terminology and fundamentalsAs described in ISO 9000:2015, quality management is based on the core concepts and principles that are universally applicable, including: • Maintaining business success through the implementation of a quality management system; •  Customers seeking assurance that a business can provide the products and services they need on a consistent basis; • The supply chain of an organization that seeks to assure its customers that product and service requirements will be met; •  An understanding of the quality management language will improve communication among organizations and interested parties; •  Conformity assessment organizations against ISO 9001 requirements; • Trainers and assessors who provide advice on quality management; • Those responsible for developing related standards. All quality management, quality management system, and ISO 9000-related standards developed by ISO/TC 176 must adhere to the terms and definitions defined by ISO/ISO 9000:2015.

ISO 9001:2015 Systems for quality management – Requirements • A quality management system must be in place when an organization: • A) Offers products that follow government and state laws • B) builds customer satisfaction by implementing the system, including processes for improving it, and ensuring that it complies with such requirements. • No matter the type of organization or size, or the products or services they provide, ISO 9001:2015 has generic requirements intended to be applied to all. ISO 9004:2018 Quality management — Quality of an organization—Guidelines for achieving sustained successAchieving sustained success is one of the objectives of ISO 9004:2018. According to ISO 9000:2015, the guidelines are consistent with quality management principles. This document provides a self-assessment tool intended to help the organization gauge whether it has implemented its concepts.
