2. United I. S. D. Standardized Dress Policy FNCA (LOCAL) STUDENT CONDUCT: DRESS CODE Purpose: The District’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards and teach respect for authority.

3. Reasons for Standardized Dress Successful Implementation at the Elementary, Middle and High School Level; Parental Request; Increase in safety and security at the campus; Easily identify students who should be on the campus Help prevent gangs from forming on campus Improvement in student self-esteem Lessen peer pressure; Diminish economic and social barriers among students. Increase a sense of belonging and school pride/spirit. Improve student discipline and focus on school work; Possibly lessen clothing expenses for parents.

4. State Laws/Policies Texas Education Code Section 11.162: (b) The rules the board of trustees adopts must designate a source of funding that shall be used in providing uniforms for students at the school who are educationally disadvantaged.

5. Shirts and Blouses in navy and white (High School color options) Pants, Skirts, Shorts, Skorts, Capris, Jumpers and Dresses in khaki, navy and black Jackets, cardigans and sweatshirts with or without hood/hoodie must have buttons or zippers. No pullover sweatshirts are allowed. These garments are acceptable in any color; however, the hood/hoodie will not the allowed to be worn inside the school building. 10. Outerwear All sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters and cardigans must be worn over a standard dress-approved shirt/blouse. Outerwear garments are acceptable in any color and may or may not have hood/hoodie; however, they must have buttons or zippers. No pullover sweatshirtswith or without hoods will be allowed. The hood/hoodie will not be allowed to be worn inside the school building. Official letterman jackets, school jackets, and school logos on outerwear garments are permitted provided such jackets or logos correspond with the school in which such garments are worn.

11. Outerwear • V-Neck Sweaters, Crew Neck Sweaters and Sweater Vests are allowed in Navy Blue, white, or Designated High School color. • Must be worn over a standard dress approved shirt/blouse, must be solid color and • Must be appropriately sized at shoulders, sleeves and length.

Uniform Voucher Application Schedule The Department of Student Services will be accepting applications at the Student Activities Complex -Fine Arts Building Rooms 1 &2 located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane, (Hwy 359) next to Zaffirini Elementary, for three days in July between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at United South High School –4001 Los Presidentes Ave three days between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as stated in Table below: Student Activity Complex United South High School Cafeteria FINE ARTS ROOMS 1 & 2

Dress Guide LinesAppropriate Uniform Bottoms: • Pants, Capris - Khaki,Navy, Black / Casual - Must be solid color *Must fit at waist and not sag, pockets must be standard front pockets, if it has belt loops, a belt must be worn 3rd-12th. No baggies, low-rise, or loose fit pants. No bell bottoms or wide leg style pants, no velour/sweat pants or warm-ups, no jeans, denim fabric, cargo, skinny style, carpenter, painter, or overalls. No visible drawstrings. No oversized/undersized or tight fitting clothing allowed. • Shorts,Skirts,Skorts – Khaki, Navy, Black / Casual - Must be solid color *Must fit at waist and not sag, pockets must be standard front pockets, if it has belt loops, a belt must be worn 3rd-12th.No baggies, low-rise, or loose fit, no denim fabric, cargo, carpenter style are allowed. No shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Slits on garment must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee (front & back). No visible drawstrings. No oversized or undersized clothing allowed. • Jumpers/Dresses – Khaki, Navy,Black - Must be solid color *Approved shirt, blouse or turtleneck must be worn under the jumper at all times. Logos/trademarks, if any, must be one inch or less. No denim fabric. If it has belt loops, a belt must be worn 3rd-12th. No shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Slits on garment must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee (front & back). No oversized or undersized clothing allowed. • Leggings/Tights - Navy, Black or White Must be solid color, must be worn under standard dress approved uniform • Belt - Any Color, must be worn at the waist 3rd-12th grades only

No oversized or undersized clothing allowed. • Undershirt,Turtleneck - Navy, White, High School designated color *Must be solid color, must be tucked in, must be worn under standard dress approved shirt/blouse/jumper. No oversized or undersized clothing allowed.  • Outerwear-Jackets, Cardigans and Sweatshirts with or without hood/hoodie *Any Color - Must be worn over a standard dress approved shirt/blouse. Must be appropriately sized at shoulders, sleeves and length. Must have buttons or zippers. Official letterman jackets, school jackets and school logos on outerwear allowed provided it is worn at their campus. No sweatshirt with hood/hoodie allowed to be worn inside the building. No pullover sweatshirts with or without hoods are allowed. No long coats extending below mid-thigh, but not limited to, trench coats. • Outerwear-V-Neck Sweaters, Crew Neck Sweaters and Sweater Vests *Navy, White, High School designated color. Must be solid color, must be worn over a standard dress approved shirt/blouse. Must be appropriately sized at shoulders, sleeves and length.  • Footwear - Any Color, must wear appropriate footwear. No house slippers, no flip flops or footwear that constitutes a safety hazard. No steel toe boots, shoes and skate shoes • Headgear – None, no headgear is allowed (caps, hats, skullcaps, bandanas)
