  1. Touchpad

  2. “It is just a touchpad, what is the big deal”? If you think the same, then this article is for you. In your daily life, you use the touchpad of your laptop a lot of times without even wondering what is happening beneath your fingers while touching the surface the touchpad of your laptop. To be honest, there are a lot of uncommon things are going on under your common touchpad. Want to know what are those? Let’s open the box of secrets. Starting with some basic information. A Touchpad is also called trackpad. It is a pointing device which helps you to navigate the cursor on your laptop display. Secretly, it has a tactile sensor which senses the movement of the user on the surface and then sends the information to the processor.

  3. Now it is time to go little deeper. What is beneath your fingers? The surface which senses your even slight movements is called touch screen. There are two types of this screen. Resistive Touchpad Capacitive Touchpad

  4. Resistive Touchpad These type of touchpads were used in some old laptops, but these are not used anymore. However, these are the reason behind the development of latest touchpads. You still can see them at various ATMs or other Kiosk. When you touch a touchpad, and you feel like the surface is pressing a little bit, then it is resistive touch. There are some layers of transparent surfaces in the resistive touchscreens. Two conductive layers are separated by insulating layers, and some tiny dots called spacers. When someone touches and put a slight pressure on the screen, the two layers comes into contact, and it causes a change in the resistance of the layers. This information is sent to the processor to determine the location of the touch and then the operation is executed with reference to your touch. All these processes take place when you just click on the screen of the touchpad.

  5. Capacitive Touchpad The capacitive can be seen in today’s almost all laptop touchpads. When you use your modern touchpad you can feel that even pressing it a little bit it does not press inside just like resistive touch. You can feel the hard surface on the top of your touch pad. Yes, it is capacitive touch. Instead of using a couple of layers it uses just two electrodes situated at one another. These two plates work as a capacitor’s two electrodes. Instead of using the resistance the capacitive touch utilizes the electric field. When you touch the surface of your capacitive touchpad, you interfere with the electric field of the screen. This interference is further used to calculate the location of the touch by the processor. So remember, when you next time touches the surface of the touchpad you are actually making a slight movement, but under your finger tip, there are a lot of processes take place. Thus, this is all about uncommon things about your common touchpad.
