  6. Internship Experience: Nephew’s Of Mackinac Location: Mackinac Island, Michigan Type: Retail Management Date of Completion: Summer 2010

  7. Over the course of my internship I was able to experience and gain better knowledge of retail management duties some of which include inventory, scheduling, and customer service. . Even though it was mainly a retail management internship, I also got to experience other aspects of merchandising and completed various window and floor displays. I also attended buying conferences and participated in the actual buying processes. My internship with Nephew’s of Mackinac was not only a great hands on experience but also an educational one.

  10. Meeting & Exposition Planning In this course we identified the primary role and responsibilities of a meeting and exposition planner. This is an example of a poster for the conference that my group planned. We planned all aspects for the conference including location, keynote speakers, gala dinner menu, and all other aspects of a conference. Our organization was the North American Association of Horseshoers. .

  11. Fashion Buying In this course we learned about all the fundamentals of buying in the fashion world. We conducted calculations, and were required to create a 6-month plan for a company. I conducted a 6-month plan for Macy’s denim department. I determined stock and sales for the six month period. Here is an example of the 6-month plan I created.

  12. Apparel Design Analysis In this course, we became familiar with fashion as a design process and a product of designs. We also analyzed the functional, structural, and decorative levels of apparel design. This is an example of a variety of apparel styles.

  13. Introduction To Textiles In this course we learned how to identify fabrics by name, yarn type, construction, dye and print application, and by finish. We also learned about the major pieces of textile legislation and regulations. Below is are examples from our workbook displaying different fabric types and weave types.

  14. Textile Analysis In this course we analyzed fabric performance on the basis of fiber content, yarn structures, fabrications and other processes. We performed several scientific test methods using optical, physical, and chemical testing. This is an example of a technical data sheet that shows the results of 10 performed tests.

  15. Computer-Aided Design In this course we learned how to use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. We created a variety of garments, patterns, prints, and concept boards. This is an example of a replication of a pair of Silver denim jeans using Adobe Illustrator.

  17. Advanced CAD In this course we used Lectra software to create garments, motifs, and patterns. We also learned how to make color palettes using the Pantone library. Here is are example of prints I created and used in four different colorways.

  19. Visual Merchandising In this course we learned how to establish, promote, and enhance a store’s visual image. Throughout the course, we constructed a variety of window displays using different products and techniques. Here is an example of a large window display I created. For this display I promoted the brand Candies from Kohl’s. We used a spring theme and included bright colors, flowers and spring clothing to build our display.

  20. Advertising & Promotion In this course we learned the purposes, procedures, methods, and techniques used in various fashion promotion activities. We also evaluated various media to be used for fashion advertising and promotion. Over the course period we were required to created a new fashion brand and the brand that my group created was called Obsession. Below is an example of our brand’s logo.

  22. Fashion Association Of Merchandising & Design The Fashion Association of Merchandising and Design (FAMD), is an organization for students planning a career in the fashion and retailing industry, formed to promote creativity and professionalism among its members and to the community.
