  2. CYM Charge Full professional development of civil engineers 35 years old and younger. Increase participation in all levels of the Society. Identify issues of concern to young engineers and help find solutions.

  3. Who is CYM? • Seven member committee • Generally four-year terms • Members are recommended by current committee members and appointed/reappointed annually by ASCE President-Elect • One Staff Contact CYM – 2010-2011

Who is CYM? • Corresponding Members • One-year term begins October 1; no term limits • Presently, 18 CMs serve on CYM for 2010-2011 • 7 CMs are from Regions 1, 2, 4 & 5 (including Region 2 Younger Member Representative to its Board of Governors) • Generally, CMs have geographic duties – serving as liaison between Geographic Member and YMG Chairs • Some CMs assist At-large Members (Publications, Student Relations, YMLS) • Beginning 2011, designated Younger Members serving other Society committees and Technical Institutes will also be CMs

  8. CYM Coordination • CYM meets two times annually • Fall meeting scheduled in conjunction with Annual Conference • Spring meeting held at mutually agreed location • CYM coordinates throughout the year • Monthly conference calls • E-mail/phone correspondence as needed

CYM Visioning Plan • Eight major goals established • Student transition to Associate or Affiliate members • Increase Younger Member involvement within ASCE • Increase media attention of Younger Member activities • Increase Younger Member attendance at ASCE events • Facilitate voicing of Younger Member issues • Foster Younger Member involvement in public service • Increase Younger Member involvement in public policy • Assist at-risk Younger Member Groups to help them maintain their sustainability

Younger Member Council Meetings • Multi-Region Leadership Conference (MRLC) • YMC meeting is one-third of MRLC • Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders (WSBL) • Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL) • YMC meetings convene YMs from across different Regions • Discuss issues of concern to Younger Members • Submit resolutions to Board of Direction for consideration • Network with other Younger Members • ASCE Leadership and Management Seminars

Younger Member Council Meetings • Eastern Regional Younger Member Council (ERYMC) • Officially formed in 2008 in Baltimore, MD • Represents 50 official YMGs from Regions 1, 2, 4 & 5 • Central Region Younger Member Council • Officially formed in 2007 • Represents 33 official YMGs from Regions 3, 6 & 7 • Western Regional Younger Member Council (WRYMC) • Officially formed in 1979 • Represents 25 official YMGs from Regions 8 & 9

Eastern Regional Younger Member Council (ERYMC) • History • NERYMC (Regions 1 & 2): 1984-2007 • ZONE II (Regions 4 & 5): 1984-2007 • ERYMC formed in 2008 • Location • Location recommended to CGU, ASCE Executive Committee • Location suggested via resolution at ERYMC Business Session • This year, candidates for 2013 ERYMC will give presentation • 2012 ERYMC hosted by Nashville Branch, Tennessee Section from January 20-21, 2012 • Early registration due around October 30, 2011 • Travel subsidy for one delegate from each official YMG

Annual Conference Younger Member Program Younger Member Leadership Symposium traditionally held in conjunction with Annual Conference Younger Member program planned by CYM together with local YMG 2010 Annual Conference incorporated YM sessions into main program Sessions include Ethics, Leadership & Management, Daniel W. Mead Paper Presentation, Networking Session Planning in progress for 2011 Annual Conference to be held in Memphis, TN, from October 20-22, 2011
