  1. Scriptural Baptism Water baptism is a subject about which there is no small amount of confusion and conflicting views. It is also a subject that is characterized by extremes. Some saying it is of no real importance; others saying that it within itself saves.

When they were baptized. What baptism does not do. Why some baptize today. Objections to baptism considered. Jesus’ baptism.

  3. Scriptural Baptism Is water baptism biblical? The noun baptisma is found 22 times in the Greek New Testament and the verb baptizo is found about 80 times. Baptism was part of Jesus’ Great Commission (Matt. 28: 18, 19, Mark 16: 15, 16).

  9. Scriptural Baptism When they were baptized. They were baptized as soon as they heard the word and were convicted–Acts 2: 41; 8: 12; 36-39; 22: 16; 16: 33.

  10. Scriptural Baptism What baptism does not do. Does not forgive all future sin. Does not remove temptation. Does not free from trials. Does not place in human church.

  11. Scriptural Baptism Why some baptize today. Two common reasons: “Outward sign of inward grace” and “to place in church.”

Scriptural Baptism Jesus’ baptism. 13: “Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14: But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15: And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him. 16: And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3).

And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38: And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39: And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8).
