  2. Features • Intensive, eight-week, six hours-a-day training program • Student assistance and support • Michigan Works! assessment of skills and aptitude • Approved, local training providers • Assistance with seeking road construction apprenticeships

  3. Eligibility • Minorities, women, or low-income individuals • 18 years of age, or older • High school diploma or GED certificate • Pass an entrance assessment for reading, applied math, and locating information • Valid driver’s license • Pass a physical exam and drug test

  4. Assistance and Support • Free tuition • Training stipend • Supplies • Transportation • Child care • Physical exam and lab test • Career counseling and follow-up services

  5. Customized Training • Provides 240 hour of training: • Job readiness skills • Applied math • Blueprint reading • Workplace safety • Overview of construction trades • Brings math, reading, and locating information skills up to workplace standards • Provides training through community colleges, trade unions, and other training providers

  6. Certification • RCAR Program Completion Certificate • Gold, Silver or Bronze WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate • CareerSafe (MIOSHA) Certificate • First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate

  7. Placement Assistance • RCAR certification shows worker qualifications and preparedness to start an apprenticeship program • RCAR participants will receive help with seeking placement into road construction apprenticeships
