  2. What does a Student Ambassador do?

  3. What will an Ambassador do? • Act as a role model • Work on and off the campus • Support young people and encourage them to engage with activities

  4. What presentations will I do? • Assembly/Talk • 3-5 minute talk to a large group of students ranging from 50-400 • Workshop • 5-8 minute talk in a class room • Question and Answer session

  5. Typical Questions… • How much does it cost? • What courses are there are university? • It is really hard? • Do you have to be smart? • Are the teachers strict? • What is the boss called? • Do you have to live there? • Are you the same as Solent University • Are there any fit boys/girls!!

Purpose of a presentation • What will the audience know already • What do you want them to know by the end? • What are your key points? • How much time do you have? • Keep your language simple • Visual aids – make sure the audience can read them, choose your colours wisely, practise in advance and have a back-up plan!

Delivering your presentation • deep breath! • talk to the audience – eye contact • talk, don’t read – use cue cards? • be concise and to the point • pace your delivery – speak s-l-o-w-l-y! • explain any difficult vocabulary • be confident – keep body language open • plan and practise • give your audience a chance to ask questions at the end

  10. Have a go! • In pairs or singly, you will structure and present a typical ambassador talk about student life, aimed at Year 9 pupils. • Your presentation should last no more than 5 minutes.
