  6. Helmet • When trail riding, ride with someone who can/will help if you get in trouble • Ride with traffic • Reflective clothing during night, rain or periods of Low Visibility • Walkman Radios Prohibited

Drowning So far, 5 deaths Swim where there are life guards on duty Never mix alcohol with water activities Know your personal limitations Use the buddy system Alcohol affects regions of the brain controlling behavior and emotion, your memory, concentration and coordination all become impaired.   8. Beware Of Rip Currents If you find yourself caught in a RIP CURRENT, turn and swim PARALLEL to the shore line. Once out of the stronger current turn and swim into shore. If you attempt to swim against the RIP CURRENT, you will most likely succumb to fatigue and probably drown!

  9. Preventing Boating Accidents • Take a Safe Boating Course (Call 1-800-368-5647) • Monitor Weather Conditions • Wear PFDs • Adhere to Load Capacity • Float Plan • Keep Clear Of Swimming and Diving Areas • Non-Alcoholic Beverages • Safety Equipment US Coast Guard

  10. Grill Safety A few minutes may save the day, and make the event the fun time it was intended to be.

  11. Well Ventilated Areas Outdoors • Approved Lighter Fluids, No Gasoline • Stand Upwind When Lighting Grill • For Propane Grills, Open Grill Cover Before Lighting • After Cooking, Shut The Propane Bottle Valve Off & Let The Gas In The Lines Burn Out • VA Dept of Forestry

  12. Check igniter Check Lines/Hoses use Soapy water to check Check Bottle/Leaks & Cracks Be sure that there are no flammables around heat source Take some time to examine the components of your grill. Never mix propane with charcoal!

  13. Ladders • Use the right ladder for the job • Inspect before use • Metal ladder + electricity = death • For every 4 ft of the ladder’s length you should come out 1 ft from the wall • Bend down pick-up obstructions that may become hazards at a later time
