  1. Our eyes are one of the most priceless possessions we own; and anything wrong with them can get us worried, even if that may be a simple discharge. The white or yellowy sticky thing, known as rheum, that we have in the eyes when we wake up after a night’s sleep is normal for us, but any other kind of discharge that runs out of our eyes during the rest of the day may get us worried! First of all, let us try to understand why we have that discharge early in the morning. You would be surprised to know that we have this kind of discharge throughout the day, but as we are awake, we keep blinking it away without even realizing it. But, when we sleep, it accumulates in the corners of our eyes, which is why we see it when we wake up. This eye discharge is a combination of mucus, skin cells, oils, and other debris, which is one of our body’s defence systems. It helps remove waste harmful debris from our eyes, thus protecting them. It also keeps our eyes lubricated enough to keep it safe, and not irritated from drying. So, we should be thankful to such eye discharge. But, anything t hat goes off-limit can be harmful. So, if you have too much of such discharge, or if you have excessive discharge throughout the day or night, this should be a warning sign for you! You could be having an eye problem that you may have not noticed yet. It could be anything from the following – dry eye, conjunctivitis, style, or corneal ulcer. Babies and children also have good amount of eye discharge throughout the day, but you need to keep a check on your little one’s eyes to notice any unusual eye discharge signal.
