  1. Assistive Technology Ashley Baas

  2. Definition Assistive technology is any device or service that helps a student with a disability to participate in the general education classroom as easiest as possible. This technology could help students with the following: Complete academic work Participate in social and extracurricular activities Maneuver around classroom Access materials around school

  3. Law Assistive Technology Act in 1988 Increased awareness of assistive technology and the benefits for those with disabilities.Funding was increased to provide technology for those with disabilities. 
 Assistive Technology Act in 2004 Enhanced the already existing Assistive Technology Act. This allowed those with disabilities to travel with their technology. This act also helped to make the person with disabilities to be apart of the decision making process for what is best for them. This law helped teachers create plans for students in need of assistive technology and gave the students the advantage they needed to complete work.

  4. Hearing impaired A microphone can be used by a teacher for a student to hear through their personal headphones while she is giving a lecture.

  5. Seeing impaired A handheld magnifier allows students who have impaired vision to take a picture of something written afar and zoom in to read it. The student could then copy these words on their own paper and refer to it easily.

  6. Learning disabled Word prediction software may be used for students who struggle with writing. The software helps predict what the student is typing to correct errors and relieve the stress of spelling.

  7. Physically disabled A grabber enables students who may use a manual wheelchair to be able to reach materials around the classroom.
