  2. A real Aussie way of taking control of your pet is through channelizing the things that are significant to your dog. You can utilize his inherent personality traits while imparting the training. • There are four distinct things that need to be considered while imparting training to your pet: • The pet should not get out of control, Passion does not turn into obsession while training, loyalty is one thing and possessiveness is another (be careful about it while training your pet) and the most significant one is transforming hyperactivity of your pet into positive energy. • All these things when combined lead to quality pet training that leads to excellence.

  3. Understand the body language of the dog • If your pet shows discomfort in front of other animals or a person do not make them say hello. There must be a significant reason for the pet to behave in this manner. • Try to understand that and respect the reason. If you force the issue, it will turn into bigger problems.

  4. Always display your affection to the dog • Dogs will learn to respect your command if you show affection to them. Many times pet-parents show their annoyance on the pets but do not shower their affection and love when they adore their pets. • This needs to be rectified instantly. It is sometimes ok to be over the top in showering your affection with a little praise and attention.

  5. Give clear-cut instructions to the dog • It is very important for you as a pet-parent to tell your pet what needs to be done rather than negating him from doing a particular thing. • You cannot have a yardstick to measure the behaviour of your pet hence, when you ask your pet to greet another pet or a person through a jump he may jump higher. • If you tell him no, he will take it as a no to the jumping, whereas what you wanted to depict was not to jump too high or jump on the left side rather than the right side. The best solution to this problem is to make him sit and understand what you want him to do so that there is no confusion latter.

  6. Be consistent while training the dog • Whenever you are training the pet it is important that all the family members in the house are on the same page. • So when you ask your dog to pull off from the couch when he steps on it other family members should not give contradictory instruction of sitting on the couch. • This will confuse the dog and he will never understand what you are trying to say to him. Hence, consistency is the key while training the dog.

  7. Be patient. Changes will happen in due course of time • It is very difficult to change a habit as a human being, so how can you expect your dog to unlearn and learn things again very quickly. • If you have trained your dog to greet people by jumping at them since early childhood and now you do not want your pet to do that thing you need to give some time to the dog to unlearn that habit and relearn a new behavior like sitting besides the foot of the people and greeting them. • It will take time for them to learn this new behavior gives him some time and he will come out with flying colors.

  8. Give rewards for positive behavior to the dog • Some people would think that treats are like bribes that you give to the pet in order to make them do something. But try and understand the fact that it is one of the easiest ways to train your dog. • You can use treats as positive reinforcement and interact with your dog. But please do not use food very often except during active training sessions. Remember that positive behavior of the pet should induce the treat rather than the treat inducing the behavior.

  9. The tips given above will not only assist you and your pet to lead a healthy life, but it will also make it much easier for you to give them a fulfilled purpose. • No doubt it will take lots of hard work and dedication, but the end result is worth it. • Do not stop interacting with your dog as each and every day you can impart a new learning session to the pet.
