  1. How to Pet Your Dog Correctly? Petting a dog might sound easy, but unfortunately, it isn’t. Also, the way you pet a dog determines whether or not you’re his favorite person or not. Petting your canine the correct way or as a matter of fact, any dog is essential in building a proper and stronger relationship between the two of you. In hindsight, dogs love being petted (well, most of them), no matter whomsoever the person is; but pet him the right way! Given below are some tips you should keep in mind before or while petting a dog. · Timing Is Pivotal — First things first, never pet a dog who does not initiate contact. This happens especially with children who tend to pet a dog when it is engrossed in some other activity (like say, sleeping). Thus, the timing of your petting is key, so ensure you keep that in mind. · Let Him Make The Initial Contact — Instead of you reaching out to pet your dog, allow him to make the first move. Invite him to come towards you by squatting down on the floor. Take his name and lure him into petting him. · Meet with a Proper Greet — Before you initiate petting, especially to a dog you’re meeting for the very first time, it is important to meet him with a proper greet. Be nice to him and use a sweet tone to converse with him. This helps the dog get a positive vibe from you.

  2. · Get, Set, Pet — On your marks, get set, pet! Once you’ve managed to successfully lure your canine towards you, it is time to pet him to your heart’s content. · Be Soft and Gentle — Once you’ve begun petting your dog, make sure the ruffling of your fingers over his smooth fur is soft and gentle. Do not use your force to pet him as it may hurt the poor canine. · Petting the Right Areas — There are good petting areas and there are great petting areas. Some dogs love being petted on the chest, shoulders, and base of the neck while others have specific sweet spots. The more you pet your dog, the faster you will get at figuring out his favorite petting area. So, keep petting! Keeping these simple pointers in mind will help you pet your dog better. Furthermore, there are a few more things a dog parent must keep in mind. - Dogs dislike patting (especially performed by children). Avoid it! - Refrain from slapping your dog’s sides in excitement. This may frighten or agitate your buddy. - Do not rub your pal’s belly when he rolls over. Most parents misinterpret this sign. - Do not hug a dog when you pet him. Hugging makes dogs anxious. - If you happen to have a rather ferocious dog, make sure to leash him before you allow children to pet it. Now that you have a fair idea about dogs and petting, why not try it on your buddy? Go ahead; pet him — the right way, of course!
