Docetaxel (Brand Taxotere) is a chemotherapeutic medication that is prescribed for the treatment of several kinds of cancers including head & neck cancer, prostate cancer, etc. Docetaxel / Taxotere is often used with other cancer medications for different kinds of cancers. Docetaxel is received as an injection into the vein by a healthcare provider in a clinic or hospital setting. It can cause harm to the skin if it comes into direct contact. Uses of Docetaxel Head & Neck Cancer Docetaxel is may be used for the treatment of induction of the patients who have locally advanced head & neck squamous cell malignancy in the larynx, oral cavity, oropharynx or hypopharynx. The treatment is done with Docetaxel medication in combination with 5- fluorouracil and cisplatin Prostate Cancer Docetaxel injection vials may be used for the treatment of prostate cancer patients with non-responsive hormonal treatment androgen independent metastasis. Docetaxel may be used in combination with prednisone medication. Ovary Cancer Docetaxel may also be used for treating malignant metastatic ovarian tumour. It is often prescribed after treatment with chemotherapy has not shown successful results. Gastric adenocarcinoma Docetaxel in combination with cisplatin and 5-fluororacil may be used to treat advanced form of malignant tumours in the stomach inside the gastroesophageal junction. This medication is generally prescribed before receiving chemotherapy for treating the advance tumour. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer or NSCLC Docetaxel may be prescribed for treating locally advanced NSCLC even after treatment with chemotherapy has not been successful. For the patients with inoperable locally advanced NSCLC who have not received chemotherapy, Docetaxel may be used alongside cisplatin. Metastatic Breast Cancer Doxorubicin-Docetaxel medication combination may be used for treating metastatic breast cancer in patients who have not yet received chemotherapy.

For metastatic breast cancer which is responsive to human epidermal receptor or HER2 in patients who have not been previously treated with chemotherapy. Docetaxel may be prescribed with trastuzumab.
