  2. Sydney Region Technology for Learning (T4L) 2006 TECHNOLOGY FOR LEARNING PROGRAM - 2006 ALLOCATION TO SCHOOLS The NSW Government’s four-year $556 million Technology for Learning (T4L) program is delivering 100,000 new state-of-the-art computers featuring flat screen monitors to NSW public schools between March 2005 and June 2008. All schools will receive a total four-year T4L allocation based on their student enrolment. The 2006 T4L allocation to schools has been finalised and is available for schools to order. The allocation has been derived from 2005 enrolment data and will provide schools with approximately one third of their remaining entitlement (approx. 20%). All schools that have not already received their full four-year T4L entitlement will receive a delivery of computers in 2006, commencing in Term 3. The delivery schedules for these new allocations will be coordinated and implemented in association with our T4L vendors. You will be advised of a delivery date by your regional T4L vendor at least two weeks prior to delivery. A portion of your 2006 T4L allocation can be used to acquire notebook computers or desktop computers with enhanced specifications for digital video production. You should indicate a preference for any of these items in the table on the 2006 response form available from the T4L web site at: http://www.intranet.schools.nsw.edu.au/t4l/ The use of 2006 T4L entitlement units to acquire servers will be considered on a case by case basis in consultation with your regional IT support team. You should contact your local regional IT support staff or technology adviser to discuss this option as soon as possible. Memorandum -p1- DN/06/00188 and DN/06/00189

  3. Sydney Region Technology for Learning (T4L) 2006 You will need to give some consideration to where your 2006 computers will be installed. This will allow you to be ready to discuss the installation of the computers with your T4L vendor when they call to confirm delivery. The remaining leased Computers in Schools Program hardware will continue to be bought out by the Department and will remain in schools. In preparation for the delivery of the new T4L computers, you should also give some consideration to the need for existing computers to be disposed of or relocated within the school. The Department has introduced appropriate standards for the configuration of these new T4L computers to ensure that all schools receive cost-effective technical support. Remote-support software has been pre-installed on the new computers, allowing updates and minor faults to be attended to online by technical support staff located in regions. The 2006 T4L response form can be downloaded from: http://www.intranet.schools.nsw.edu.au/t4l/ Please complete the response form and return it by email toT4L@det.nsw.edu.auno later than Friday 30 June 2006. To confirm the legitimacy of the response, please use either the school or principal’s email account to return the form. To ensure that the T4L rollout proceeds without delay, an order for 1-unit desktop computers will be automatically placed for all schools that have not submitted a response form by the due date. Please contact your local regional IT support staff or technology adviser if you have any queries about the 2006 T4L allocation process. Tim Anderson, Director, Information Services, Information Technology Directorate, 6 June 2006 Memorandum –p2- DN/06/00188 and DN/06/00189

  23. Sydney Region T4L 2006 Sydney Region initiatives-1- Sydney Region IT School Support advises that schools consider ordering a curriculum fileserver during the 4 year T4L program in order that this device be covered by warranty. Please discuss this with one of the four Technology Advisors. Server installs are scheduled for this term and during term three. Schools will be notified in advance of delivery and installation. The server will be delivered by ASI and installed by Sydney Region IT School Support Staff. • When the server is delivered, please store it in a secure location. Following delivery, a team will arrive to install and set up the server. • The install team will: • - Configure Windows 2003 according to Sydney Region Standard Setup. • - Re-image workstations, where required – needs to be organised prior to setup. • - Configure workstations to use the new server. • - Create new logon accounts for all students and staff. • - Setup Eduweb. • - Copy and data from old servers to the new server. • Configure printing through the new server. • Server based software will only be installed if time allows. Where it is not installed, we will endeavour to install this software on a subsequent visit. • Installation and setup will take two days for most sites.

  24. Sydney Region T4L 2006 Sydney Region initiatives-1- • Prior to installation, you will need to: • Identify a suitable location for the fileserver. The server should be located in a secure location, with access to power and the school network. • The server is 429 x 218 x 709mm (Height x Width x Depth) • - Look at the data on any existing server and clean up the data as required. • - Produce an accurate Staff List, identifying all Teaching, Executive and Office staff. • - Check that OASIS data for student enrolments is up to date. • - Identify all software that needs to be installed and run from the server • - Contact DET Software Sales and purchase a licence and media for Windows 2003 Standard. (Phone:1800 065 324, http://software.det.nsw.edu.au/index.htm). • It is advised that you purchase a UPS for this server. • Details of a suitable UPS (min. 1KVA) unit are available from our Regional Suppliers, ASI (Mark Merlino, (02) 9384 8064)
