IMPORTANCE  A smart switch is di?erent from a traditional light switch in that it can control just about anything it is connected with, including hardwired appliances, fans, and of course lights. Also, unlike a traditional light switch, smart switches can be controlled remotely, through a smartphone app, or via a remote control by connecting to the home’s WiFi network.

Reported instances of smart home attacks have included hackers remotely controlling smart lights and smart TVs, unlocking IoT-enabled doors, and remotely turning on and streaming video from smart cameras Smart devices communicate via their own protocols (like ZigBee) as well as through your Wi-Fi network. Unsecured Wi-Fi networks can be monitored by hackers, which means that the information your smart devices are sending your apps and other devices can be intercepted.

  9. LONG TERM USE DATA CALCULATIONS  it is crucial to recognize that smart switches will use more energy than a standard switch.
