  3. Colorectal cancer (bowel cancer) is a very common cancer in Australia. It affects about 1 in 20 persons in Australia. Colorectal cancer becomes more common with age. Most patients with colorectal cancer develop the condition between 55 and 75 years of age. Men and women are equally affected although cancers of the rectum occur more frequently in men. Colonoscopy is the best test for detection of cancer there is a small risk of missing a small cancer. The risks and benefits of colonoscopy should be discussed in detail with your doctor prior to proceeding with the test.The specific details of your colonoscopy bowel preparation will be discussed and given to you at the time of your consultation

  4. Professor Christopher Young Professor Christopher Young is Head of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is Executive Director of Surgical Education at the RPA Institute of Academic Surgery, and a member of the Australia and New Zealand Training Board in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He operates at RPA Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Professor Young’s interests include surgical education and decision making. His colorectal interests include colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor dysfuction. He underwent specialty colorectal training at RPAH, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Concord Hospital and at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. Professor Young performs laparoscopic and open surgery for complex colorectal diseases including primary and recurrent colon and rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, and for complex and recurrent perianal diseases.
