French Speaking Caribbean Islands - Knowing About the Languages of the Caribbean Islands The Caribbean is the American region that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands, and the surrounding coasts. It includes southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and the North American mainland, the eastern region of Central America, and north of South America. Spanish, French, English, Dutch, Haitian Creole, Papiamento are the six official languages spoken in the Caribbean. When it comes to French-speaking Caribbean islands, let us discuss the powerful nations with greater French influence. Haiti Haiti is an island state occupying three-eighths of Hispaniola Island. With a population of over 10.7 million people, it is the second-most populous Caribbean state. Since more than 40% of the population converses in French, it is also the biggest French-speaking Caribbean state. It is among the two independent American countries who have made French their official language. Guadeloupe Guadeloupe is an archipelago forming a French overseas region in the southern Caribbean Sea. Occupying an area of about 629 square miles, it is situated on the Leeward Islands, made up of one overseas department. With about 449,246 people, it is considered the most populous and biggest European territory on the continent. Though the entire population converses in Antillean Creole, French is Guadeloupe's official language. Martinique Martinique is a French island region that's part of the Lesser Antilles. It occupies an area of about 436 square miles and has a population of over 385,034 people. Though the locals of Martinique converse in Antillean Creole, French is the rugged Caribbean island's official language. Saint Martin Saint Martin is a small islet of the Leeward Islands situated in the north-eastern parts of the Caribbean. The island occupies an area of about 34 square miles that is split between the Netherlands and France. The northern French side is called Saint-Martin, and it is southern Dutch side is referred to as Saint Maarten. It is well-known for resort beaches, fusion cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and duty-free shops selling jewelry and liquor. Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, Saint Barthélemy, French Guiana, and Saint-Martin are the significant regions that are referred to as the French-speaking Caribbean islands.
