  1. Acer Japonicum

  2. ABOUT Acer japonicum is also referred to as a "Full Moon Maple" because of the way its distinctive leaf lobes radiate symmetrically to resemble the shape of the moon.

  3. One of the more regal plants that can be used in the landscape is the Japanese maple. A typical Japanese maple is difficult to describe because there are so many different cultivated varieties. They can grow to a height of six to 25 feet, making them suitable for a variety of landscapes. They can be cultivated as large, multi-stemmed shrubs or small, single-stemmed trees.

  4. The leaves' color ranges from dark green to scarlet to reddish-purple and they have five to nine deeply cut lobes. Japanese maples have stunning fall foliage and a striking winter silhouette thanks to their tiered branches.

  5. ATTRIBUTES One of the distinguishing characteristics of Acer japonicum is the distinctive texture of the leaves when they first appear in the spring. In the early spring, leaves have tiny hairs that give them a fuzzy appearance. Japanese maple species typically have the largest leaves.

  6. Where Should You Plant a Japanese Maple? Japanese maples can thrive in Zones 5 and 6 despite being native to Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea provided they are planted in the proper area. After particularly harsh winters, some dieback in plants is not uncommon.

  7. Acceptance of Light Japanese maples grow naturally as understory trees. They are used to a lot of shade and dappled light, in other words. Depending on your location and the variety, a Japanese maple can withstand varying levels of sun exposure. As you move further north, trees will be able to withstand more sunlight.

  8. Temperature Tolerance While most varieties of Japanese maple do well in USDA hardiness zones 5-8, some can tolerate the higher temperatures of zone 9. These maples can withstand temperatures as high as 100 degrees for extended periods of time, but some still need shade in the afternoon.

  9. Water Requirements Japanese maples need to be watered frequently in hot, southern climates. These trees' water needs are influenced by the season, wind, humidity, light, and other elements. Plants will benefit from deep watering once or twice a week during the spring and summer.

  10. The Conifer Kingdom is an excellent choice for Acer japonicum. About Conifer Kingdom It has a wide variety of conifer, maple, hedge, and specimen species. The first enjoyable steps in constructing your landscape are planning, planting, and getting your native California plants off to a good start.
