  1. Metals The materials which are hard in nature are called metals. Examples – Gold, Silver , copper, iron etc are metals .

  2. Properties of metals- Metals are hard- The metals are generally hard in nature . They can’t be broken easily . e.g. if you beat iron nail with hammer it will not break.

  3. Metals have lustre– Metals shine in their pure state. This property of metals is called metallic lustre. e.g. Gold, silver, Platinum etc shine so they are used in making jewellery.

  4. Metals are malleable – The property by which metals can be flattened in thin sheets by beating is called malleability. e.g. aluminum sheet is used in our home to wrap chapattis.

  5. Metals are ductile- The property of metals to be drawn into wires is called ductility. e.g. A wire of 2 km can be made from 1gm of gold. • Metals are good conductors of electricity- Metals allow electricity to pass through them e.g. copper wires used in our home conduct electricity.

  6. Metals are good conductors of heat- Metals allow heat to pass through them easily . So they are good conductors of heat. e. g. copper, iron , aluminium etc are used to make cooking utensils. Metals are sonorous – Metals produce ringing sound on striking a hard surface. Thus metals are sonorous. So school bells are made of metals, wind chimes are made of metals.
