The first section is of General Studies (GS) and second section being Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). Both sections are of 200 marks and have a time duration of an hour each. Candidates need to qualify both the sections to appear for the mains examination. There is also negative marking in each wrong answer. Mains : Candidates clearing the prelims qualify to take the mains which are held around September every year Interview : Candidates successful qualifying in the UPSC are invited to the interview next March. Personality Assessment is carried out at this stage wherein the interviewer evaluates verbal communication skills, articulation, intellectual capabilities amongst other criteria. The interview is for 275 marks and the final selection and placement of the successful candidates is dependent on their ranking based on theie combined performance represented by the total of their marks in the Mains and the Interview.
