  1. Everything You Need to Know About Knee Scope Surgery Also called knee arthroscopic, knee scope surgery is a new treatment that has replaced conventional or traditional surgeries. While not everyone is a good candidate, most people suffering from a meniscus injury, ACL, and cartilage micro fracturing are advised to explore this mode of treatment. If you are experiencing knee problems, then you are probably intrigued by this new type of surgery. Here are some important details you need to know about knee scope surgery so you can decide if it’s right for you. How different is knee scope surgery from traditional surgery? In the past, surgeons had to open up the knees of their patients to check the severity of the injury and fix the damage. Today, through knee scope surgery, they are able to do everything through small incisions and a small arthroscopic camera. Thus, the main difference between this new and the old surgical approach is in the degree of invasiveness. Obviously, knee scope surgery is less invasive, making it a better option. How does it work? During knee arthroscopy, the surgeon will only make two or three small incisions on the front of the patient's knee. Through one of the small incisions, the surgeon will insert a small scope to see the injury closer. Other small instruments and implants are placed through the other incisions on the knee to fix the damaged tissues and structures. What types of injuries can and cannot be treated by this surgery? People who suffer from MCL, ACL, microfracture, meniscus injury, posterior cruciate ligament tears (PCL tears), and articular cartilage damage can be candidates for knee scope surgery. However, it is not recommended for those with multi-ligament knee injuries and patellar instability. They may be better off undergoing open surgeries. How long is the recovery after the knee scope surgery? Even though the procedure is less invasive, recovery can still be difficult and long. You will still feel discomfort and follow post-operative recovery procedures diligently as per your doctor's advice.
