  1. VPAT Accessibility Conformance Report: Documenting Accessibility Compliance

  2. VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is a document that is accepted by industries when filled to create a product level of conformance with digital accessibility standards. VPAT accessibility conformance report describes the level of accessibility a product or service has, including hardware, software, and electronic content. These reports are created by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), and the purpose of the report was to help companies show compliance as per Section 508 of the U.S Rehabilitation Act when dealing with federal organizations but is now common practice for demonstrating digital accessibility in both private and public sectors.

What are the Types of VPAT Accessibility Conformance Report Four types of VPAT accessibility conformance reports allow ICT manufacturers to create ACR relevant to their target market and audience. The VPAT editions are as follows: • VPAT 2.4 Rev 508: This is the revised version of Section 508 Standards developed by the U.S. Federal Accessibility Standards. • VPAT 2.4 Rev EU: This is a revised version of EU 301 549 VPAT developed by the European Union's Accessibility Requirements suitable for public procurement of ICT products and services in Europe. • VPAT 2.4 Rev WCAG: This is a revised conformance report of WCAG 2.1 or ISO/IEC 40500 formed with WAI/W3C's newly updated Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. • VPAT 2.4 Rev INT: This version of the document incorporates all three of the above standards and is also known as the international edition of the VPAT accessibility conformance report.

  4. Who needs a VPAT? In order to prove that your business and organization are compliant with their ICT with Section 508 standards, it is required to have a VPAT Accessibility Conformance Report. Whether it is a government organization or a private firm, it is mandatory to be digitally accessible to every user, regardless of their abilities.
