  2. CONVENTION OF HORROR • One of the conventions of a horror film is featuring specific common fears. • These often include; • Nightmares • alienation • vunrablity • death • fear of the unknown • loss of identity

  3. TYPICAL NARRATIVES OF HORROR • a story in which the focus is on creating a feeling of fear. Such tales are of ancient origin and form a substantial part of the body of folk literature. They can feature supernatural elements such as ghosts, witches, or vampires, or they can address more realistic psychological fears.

  4. WHAT SUB-GENRES ARE THERE WITHIN THIS GENRE? • FOR EXAMPLE … • Comedy horror. • Folk horror. • Found footage horror. • Gothic horror. • Natural horror. • Slasher horror. • Teen horror

  5. DOES HORROR HYBRIDISE WITH OTHER GENRES? • One of the many things that helps make the horror genre relevant to audiences is its ability to form links and hybrids to other genres. This only makes sense because the way to effectively scare audiences is to find the core of their fears and splatter them all across the screen. It is what a romantic comedy will do in order to touch the heartstrings of an audience or what a drama will do in order to make audiences cry into soaked tissues. Yet, while a comedy is not necessarily incompatible with a drama it is a necessity for the horror genre to connect with various other genres in order to effectively scare and the succeed

How successful is horror financially? • The most obvious reason for the staggering success of horror is rooted in Hollywood economics. •  Horror films in general have turned out to be great investments. • Horror is pleasurable to many people because it lets us play with negative emotions and develop coping strategies. We learn what it feels like to be truly afraid, and we learn how to handle negative emotion. • The best horror movies are full of suspense. Suspense involves creating anticipation that something bad will happen, but not knowing when it will occur. Some of the most shocking horror movie scenes, create anticipation, but then violate the audiences' expectations.
