There are many choices to consider but studying or interning is most popular. If you are considering any of the two following is a list of differences between these: Focus When one is studying abroad the course pattern may not be that focused, whereas an internship would be much focused; you would be putting energies into doing what is most essential to your success at work. You will be working anywhere between 30 – 40 hours a week but you will have time to have fun but it may be on your own initiative. You can make friends at work place and plan your fun activities. Responsibilities Internship may be a time for you to take more responsibility for your life and for the work you do. This aspect may not be as strongly developed if you are a student because in college life you may not have such tight deadlines to meet. Also, your classes may not take up so much time in a day as much as work will. Also, in college atmosphere it may be easier to make friends as most will be of same age and somewhat similar outlook; this may not be the case at workplace and you may have to fend for yourself. Pay or get paid Studying abroad can be pretty expensive, so cost is a major factor. But this is not an issue when you take up internship. Though, payment is not guaranteed when you take up internship as most in most internships you are expected to work freely but rewards are high if you land at the right place. Employer Perspective As you know, everywhere the employers are looking for experience more than just degrees. So, if you do an internship, which is considered as a job experience, you are in a better position to land a good placement for yourself than just having a degree. Networking Networking is one of the major benefits of studying or working abroad. Though you will have a chance to network while studying the opportunities for networking are much better while working as you would be placed in a real world situation among the people, so you have a better chance to mingle with people and develop the essential connections.
