  1. Is a PRP injection for the knee beneficial instead of having knee replacement surgery?

  2. Sometimes, we have to be very lucky to make the right choice in life. We mostly trust our instincts out of fear and take the most challenging decision of the moment, hoping that it will work out well. • An avid athlete named Lillian Jessy Abraham experienced something like that in her personal life, where she had successfully overcome her knee problem. • Life was going on very well for Lillian Jessy until the age of 59, where she used to dedicate nearly 15 hours per week to fitness activities such as speed skating, surfing, and strength training. • After she got relocated to Ireland, things were going well for Lillian Jessy until that dreadful morning. • After a regular two-hour workout, she suddenly slipped on the floor resulting in a direct hit on her knee. • Within few hours, her left knee got swollen with terrible pain.

  3. When Lillian Jessy approached her family physician, he prescribed several pain medications and informed her to follow RICE (Rest, Ice application, Compression, and Elevation) formula. • Although she had temporary relief, she was asked to restrict her routine activities. • Hence, she could not continue her fitness activities due to the intermittent onset of symptoms such as knee pain, difficulty in walking, and swelling. • She somehow wants to regain her everyday life and get rid of knee issues permanently. • Later, Lillian Jessy tried steroid treatment for six months. • Again, it was not working out for her. Moreover, steroids are not recommended for a longer duration. • At last, her family physician recommended knee replacement surgery to be the last resort. • Furthermore, she may need another joint replacement within the next five years due to her age and activity level. One could imagine what will be her reaction then.

  4. Lillian Jessy was so determined to find an alternative treatment and started researching herself. • She came to know about Medica Stem Cells Clinic and scheduled a direct consultation to find whether she is an eligible candidate for regenerative treatment. • And yes, unlike other doctors, she was strongly recommended to try PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) treatment before opting for surgery. • In PRP treatment, the doctor will extract the blood from the patient, harvest it to derive the concentrated platelet-rich plasma, and inject it back into the site of injury. • Several research studies reveal that PRP can relieve pain and help to rebuild the injured tissues. Since PRP has many growth factors, it can promote quick healing. • Unlike the available conventional treatment modalities, PRP treatment treats the underlying causes of the disease and not just masks the symptoms. Hence, the patients can expect long-term relief from symptoms.

  5. Although there is no concrete research that PRP can successfully treat all kinds of injuries, Lillian Jessy was ready to try the PRP treatment when given an option. That’s the turning point in her life. • And now, after 18 months post knee injury, Lillian Jessy reported that she got recovered by 90 percent. • Now she started working out 2 hours six days a week with the help of a personal fitness trainer. • She has opted for stand-up paddling and agility training instead of surfing and speed skating for the time being. • Lillian Jessy credits the medical team from the Medica Stem Cells clinic as one of the major elements of her quick recovery. • If Lillian were left out with just a knee replacement surgery, she would undergo a prolonged challenging recovery period.

  6. This is the real-life experience of Ms Lillian Jessy. • Now it is up to you whether you should try it out or not. • When PRP therapy is just a daycare procedure with no adverse side effects, isn’t it worth a try rather than proceeding with knee joint replacement surgery?
