  1. Bearded dragons are adorable reptiles that are perfect as pets because they are pretty low maintenance. It’s technically an exotic pet, although it has easily become one of the more popular types of reptiles now being given house pet status. One of the more important factors to consider when taking are of a bearded dragon is that they need to be fed properly and with the right kinds of food to keep them happy and healthy. Lucky 1

  2. for you, it’s pretty easy to stock up on bearded dragon food because they’re not very picky eaters. Bearded dragons are omnivores, which means that they can eat anything, whether meat or vegetables. Ideally, you serve them up with a good mix so that they don’t tire of the taste easily. You wouldn’t want to be served with the same thing day in and day out now, would you? Vegetables Leafy greens and vegetables are highly beneficial for their diet. You can give them collards, mustard, turnip, and watercress greens, for example. Green beans, snap peas, sweet peas, okra, and yellow squash, are also viable food options for them on the regular. Occasionally, you can give them parsley, kale, peeled cucumber, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, and celery stalks. Now, there are also those kinds of food that you can feed them on rare occasions, but if you can help it, preferably not: spinach, tomatoes, and beet greens. That’s because these food items are high in oxalates, a calcium-binding agent that seriously impedes their ability to absorb calcium. What you should absolutely NOT feed them are avocados and rhubarb. These are toxic to bearded dragons, plain and simple. Lettuce is also something you can remove from their food list. Not only does it not have any real nutritional value, it also can cause diarrhea to your pet. Live Feed Insects are popular go-to food selections for bearded dragons, and for very good reason. They are rich in protein and carbohydrates, which are good for these cold-blooded animals. Dubia roaches, crickets, and hornworms comprise a perfect selection for them. 2

  3. Occasionally, you can treat your bearded dragons to mealworms, rinsed earthworms, silkworms, and butter worms as well as wax worms. Never feed them fireflies, boxelder bugs, and wild-caught insects. These can be very toxic for their health. It is better to stock up on live food for your pets. There are suppliers such as Great Lakes Hornworm that can easily provide you with bulk supplies, which are going to mean savings for you in the long-term as well. Some people get creeped out by roaches in general, but as long as you keep them well contained, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem keeping them ready for feeding. Dubia roaches are not likely to escape, they don’t stink, and they stay alive for longer as compared to crickets. Bred dubia roaches are also guaranteed to be safe and parasite-free. Crickets, on the other hand, don’t hide or bury, and have a softer shell, making them easy for your bearded dragon to eat and digest. About Great Lakes Hornworm: Great Lakes Hornworm is a proud supplier of quality pet food and supplies. From live crickets to live superworms, bearded dragon food, nutritional supplements, and whatever other needs you may require to keep your pet reptiles happy, you can rest assured that we have it on the ready for you.
