    Frederick Henry is a cleanshaven American man, young and in his prime. (Hemingway 127-129)? Henry is lusty man in both senses of the word; full of vigorous life, he “chats it up” and drinks with his fellow soldiers. Then, he makes trips to the local brothels. (7-9)? To him, romance is a game of ruthless seduction, of giving, and especially taking. At least at first... (13)? Henry lives a modest and courageous life, taking each blow in stride – he willingly puts off his own medical treatment for others. (30-31)?
