  2. LECONFIELD WINES LeconfieldWines, afamilyrunbusinessisownedbyDr. Richard HamiltonandhiswifeJette. LocatedintheCoonawarraregionwhichis saidtobesimilartotheBordeauxregioninFrance, thewineryisableto producesomeofthefinestwineswhichshowdistinctearthy characteristicsuniquetothatregion.  WithtwoofSouthAustralia’s mostreputedwinelabels- LeconfieldWinesandRichardHamilton Wines, thefamilyhasachievedamilestoneintheinternationalmarket offinewines.

  3. HISTORY ThisfamilyrunbusinesswasfoundedbyRichardHamiltonin1873when heplantedthefirststockintheHamiltonVineyardslocatedtothe southofAdelaide. Itwasfivegenerationsdownthefamilyline, thathis great-greatgrandsonDr. RichardHamiltonstartedasmallwineryin 1972. HewasabletodothisundertheguidanceofhisfatherBurton Hamilton (anotedviticulturist) andhisuncleSydneyHamilton, a renownedvigneron. Aftertwoyears, SydneyHamiltonattheageof76broughtaparcelof landintheCoonawarraregionofSouthAustraliaandthus, established theLeconfieldWines. Itwasoneofhislife’sgreatestambitiontogrow andmakeaclassicCabernetSauvignon. Hechosethe ‘terrarossa’ strip inCoonawarrawhichisoneofthemostfamouswineregions. Beforehis retirement, Sydneyintroduced65vintagesundertheLeconfieldlabel. In1981, heretiredandtheestatewaspurchasedbyDr. Richard Hamilton.

  4. AT PRESENT Since1981, RichardHamiltonhasaddedtothelandholdingsand plantingsandthevineyardnowstretchesoveranareaof43.7hectares. TheCoonawarraregionwherethevineyardislocatedischaracterized byamaritimeclimateverymuchliketheBordeauxregioninFrance. TheregionisknownforthefinestCabernetSauvignoninAustralia. ThebusinessisnowtakencareofbyDr. RichardHamiltonandwife JetteHamiltonalongwiththeirchildren  AnnasofiaandThomas. They feelproudoftheirrichfamilyheritageandshareapassionfor winemaking.
